Chocolate and Chip paid us a visit tonight. Chip is so big now, I at first thought it was a strange moose. What was real fun to watch is how Chocolate is definatly not wanting Chips company. She would let him get only so close. Then she would chase him away. He showed a lot of respect. Didn't try to do anything funny around her. Wonder if there will be another baby come spring.

How long has it been since you had seen Chocolate and Chip? I know you had mentioned that your garden had been invaded, but did you ever get to see which moose had been responsible for that?

Of course you'll let us know if or when Chocolate starts to "show". Just how obvious is it when a female moose is pregnant? It seems that some of the larger animals are better able to conceal their pregnancies than are the tinier ones.

It has been a long time (early spring) since I have seen Chocolate and Chip. I expect that Chip will be on his own real soon from the way Chocolate was treating him.

As for her "showing", I don't know if I would be able to tell. She would have to be exceptionally big to notice a difference. I suppose if she were to have twins or triplets I might be able to tell.

As for the garden thieves, I suspect a cow and twin "little" calves. The prints in the dirt were pretty small and lots of them. My DH said she figures the momma told the little ones how to get in and to eat only one cabbage each (there were three cabbage in the garden) and bring the last one to her. The fence rail that they went under without harming is only 5 feet off the ground. A full grown moose would have to crawl to get under it.
