As some of you may know, I am a teacher, and this year I'm teaching 2nd grade. One of the other 2nd grade teachers is an animal lover (aka nut) like me. She runs a collie rescue at her home and houses up to 20 dogs at a time. Well, we are doing an animal project this year. Some of the things we'll be doing are: posting an informative animal fact each day on the morning announcements, featuring a specific animal on a bulletin board in the hallway each month, visiting the humane society, a local farm, and a state park, and of course, including animals in as many lessons as possible. For our read aloud storytime after recess each day, I read an animal book (that way I squeeze in science, too-which I seldom have time for). We've learned about mammals, reptiles, amphibians, insects, birds, and fish so far and are classifying animals into these groups. I am having a blast with this and just hope that these kids will grow up to respect species other than their own. So,Marian, I really think this web-site will be a great help to us.
