As a child I was frightened of big blond men (strange - as my parents were fair) and my old Gran said that was "race memory" Did she mean cellular meomory ? the collective unconscious ? pity I can't ask her to elaborate now
She said I musr have, like her, a memory of Viking raids. I do dream, and have dreamt,of a horde of yelling men running out of the water at me and fire and smoke and screams. Always the same blasted dream, same place, sane time of day, darned dream is as old as I am
Perhaps someone told me a scarey story when I was 3, but I don't know, the only stories passed round in the old family home were tales of the monstrous English, not the monstrous Vikings
And I still can't abide big blonde men <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

The mention of cellular memories reminds me of a part of the book "The Clan of the Cave Bear" where the adoptive mother tells the main character that she doesn't posses the same memories as the rest of the clan. The main character realizes that she is different even inside from the rest of the clan and it becomes a turning point for her to find those with whom she shares memories. It's a pretty poingnant part of the story.

heavens I'd forgotten that bit .. that was the difference between the earlier human and the later .. no cellular memory (but I think it was meant to be learned response versus instinctual)
perhaps some old bit of chimpanzee still floats about in the thalamus and people who remember past lives can access it more readily than others

Hi, I'm new here to these forums. Great place!!! A little about myself before I go into my question about this past life stuff.
I'm 29/M from Florida. I'm a professional in the IT field, well-rounded person and I am open to listen to what everyone has to say.
Ok here it goes... This might be a bit long, but I need to hear what other people have to say about this.
When I was in grade school...in 3rd grade I think, I saw one of the most beautiful people I had ever layed my eyes on, on the playground during lunch. It was this girl in the same grade as me, but in a different class. From the 1st day I saw here I fell in love with her. Is that possible??? A kid that's only in 3rd grade fall in love??? Anyway back to my story. Well we went through grade school together as friends and went to the same High School,(small one). Through-out all the years we went as friends in grade school my feelings hadn't changed for her. The same feelings continued through High School. Was very much in love with this person.
Let me make something clear before I continue. I was not Obssesed with her. I did live my life like any other young teenager would. I got involved in relationships with other females and had fun with my friends.
Anyway...we went through High school as friends once in a while we hung out with a bunch of friends...the typical teenage scenerio. Well after we graduated High school. She went her way and I went my way.
Then I saw her again 4 years after we graduated school. We started to hang out here and there. We started to get close. One day things just happend and before I knew it, we were a couple...boyfriendgirlfriend. <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> It was great!!! 20 years after I saw her in the play ground I was still in love with her and now was her boyfriend. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Well we had a good 2 years together before the relationship end it. She had left me. She left me because I had closed up to her. I was going through a tough time with family and at work. I guess I took it out on her. She tried to be there for me but I pushed her away. I was very sad when she left me. I just wanted to die, it was I think the worst thing that has ever happend to me in my entire life. All my fault.
Well 5 years have passed ever since the horrible break up. I have been involved in many relationships with other women and I am currently involved with someone now. The problem I have is that I can not get my X-girlfriend out of my mind and heart. No mattter how hard I try. I have read so many different things, but nothing works for me. I love the person that I am with now, but I know that I can never love anyone like I did her(my ex).
Here's my question. Can it be possible that her and I had something together in our past lives and we ended up here together again, but for some reason we're not able to be truly be together during this life time and my love for her carried over to this life time??? <img src="/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> I have loved and cared for other women, but this one is different (my ex). I don't know how to describe it. I feel that we had something together in our past lives.
For the past 4-6 weeks my mind has been calling her...I can't stop think about her. At times I'll have dreams about her. There was one time when I dreamt about her for a week straight. It was very weird frustrating. At times I'll be at work, car, or somewhere alone and catch a smell of her scent. I don't think I can deal with this myself anymore. That's why I'm here so maybe someone can help me out or maybe has had a similar "issue" (or whatever you want to call it.) like mine.
Anyway...this is my story. I am open to any opinions and suggestions. I hope someone can help me out with this, it has been tormenting me for a good part of my life. I just want an explanation to this. <img src="/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
Thank you all and I hope my story is not too boring. <img src="/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Hello and welcome to the New Age Forum! Can it be possible that her and I had something together in our past lives and we ended up here together again, but for some reason we're not able to be truly be together during this life time and my love for her carried over to this life time??? From what you've described, your experience sounds remarkably similar to others who have recounted past life "echoes". (And your post was certainly not boring! <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> ) You may want to consider calling on Archangel Michael to cut "etheric cords" between you and your ex-girlfriend. According to Dr. Doreen Virtue, etheric cords are tube-like structures that connect individuals with others or objects. They can be seen with the psychic senses, and are often based on fear or some type of "hardened dysfunction". These "psychic leashes" can really drain your energy, and often keep people from moving on in their lives. It sounds like you're being drained right now by having her presence invade your life. Try this prayer: Archangel Michael, I call upon you now. Please cut these cords of attachment that are draining my energy and vitality.According to Virtue, those that experience the severing of etheric cords may actually feel air-pressure changes, followed by an increase in energy and decrease/cessation of pain--especially for sensitive folk. I hope this helps! Feel free to share more of your thoughts and experiences. We're glad to have you here. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Thank you for your responce Janet. I'm a n00b to all this so I'm sorry if I ask too many questions. Can you explain to me in a little bit more detail what "etheric cords" are? I don't quite understand what they are. What are "psychic leashes"? I think I have heard of Archangel Michael before, but I don't know anything about him. How is it that someone can carry over feelings from a past life to now? I think it's a really weird that this can actually happen, but I believe it. I am a big believer in this stuff. I have had some weird things happen to me in my life so that's why I'm so open minded to everything. I believe in ghost and the paranormal, dejavu, life after death, and past lives. That's why I'm looking for an answer to my question about my X. I want to know why and how this carried over to my life now. It has been pinching at me for years and I think it's time for me to find an answer or at least try. There's no one I can really talk to about this. I don't think my friends will take me serious if I tell them what I posted here. Thanks!!! Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi there!
I'm a firm believer one can never ask too many questions in life. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
I'm not even sure what to make of the whole past life thing, either, so I can only share what I know from reading books and hearing the experience of others.
Everything in the Universe is made up of energy. Even though a rock appears stationary, atoms are vibrating at the microscopic level. However, slower vibrations=denser masses, so the rock appears stationary.

There is actually some pretty interesting theoretical biology and neuropsychology considering "past lives", although the nature of most past life descriptions are pretty easy to doubt.
Notice how most descriptions of past lives involve being or knowing someone very famous - like John Lennon, Napoleon, Einstein, an actor or actress, president, Jesus... Chances are, if we were really someone in our past lives, statistically it would be someone just as unimportant as we currently are. But most people who suddenly 'realize' they've lived a past life have always lived that past life as someone incredibly famous or been attached to someone very famous. It's very suspicious.
Theoretical biology, like a lot of "theoretical" (when used in this way) views of things, views things of unknown function as having potential 'paranormal' function. IE, introns in cistrons (I think, I'm definitely not sure) could be involved in how specific neural tissue grows throughout life, and may store memories of some sort of 'past life'... But this idea is full of holes as well.
Carl Jung's collective unconscious, likewise, directly infers the existence of metempsychotic memory. But there is no proof (or even reason) for a collective unconscious, although evolutionary psychology makes note that we do seem to have built in reactions to many things that may have genetically developed across time as our ancestors learned those reactions the hard way. So perhaps metempsychotic memory, if it exists, is a more 'general recollection' of past events, even more general than Jung's concept. This, of course, would not be like the 'past lives' people record.
Probably the biggest problem with transanimus recollection (metempsychotic memory) is the way it is described and believed in, an essential flaw to any and all religions. Metempsychotic memory is attempted to be described in terms of the intangible, like teleknesis and precognition (although theoretical psychologists do attempt to describe these abilities on an objective, neurophysiological level).
As the above poster demonstrated, the wild ability of being able to remember 'beyond birth' seems to only be describable with wild terms - etheric cords, unconscious psychic leashes. Although atoms are vibrating on a (nano)scopic level, and there are many interesting ways to draw connections between quantum physics (namely, the infinitely misunderstood Uncertainty Principle) and 'real life' events and behavior, no one has attempted to evaluate causation or correlation, as it would be fairly impossible.
Besides, I'd say draining and emotional interactions are better reasons why'd we feel drained or ill than magical cords. How exactly a doctor believes that through the infinite uncertainty and variation of subatomic particles could connect two people's consciousnesses is beyond me; perhaps it's why I've never heard of him before.

But why do some people drain us and others do not?
As far as past lives and famous people, those are the only ones making it into the media precisely because it involves famous people. There have been many studies by psychologists showing children with "past life recall"; these children remember interactions with family memembers that they haven't yet met (as an example) and relatives are astounded how these children could know locations, events, and people.
It seems thats science often parallels spiritual principles, but describe the same things in different terms.

Hi all, I've just posted a review of a fascinating book about life between lives: Journey of Souls - Case Studies of Life Between LivesWhat happens when you die? What does it feel like? Who do you see? What is the purpose of life? These questions and more are answered in the book Journey of Souls by Hypnotherapist Dr. Michael Newton.
