Greetings!

I've just posted 2 new articles in the vein of the Divine feminine:

Musings About The Divine Feminine I believe that the introduction of the book The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown into Western consciousness (as well as the N.Y. Times Best Seller list!) is helping to bridge the yawning gap between the feminine Divine and Western spirituality.

Secrets & Mysteries - The Glory And Pleasure Of Being A Woman Secrets & Mysteries is a book that will give you a profound understanding of what it means to be a woman. Full of passion, mysticism, and practical information, it will tap the source of your power at the depths of your soul.

What has been your experience with the Divine Feminine and Yin energy? How have you reconciled the male and female aspects of God into your spiritual practice? What are the archetypal evolutions of the feminine that you're noticing in the West? The World?

I'd love to hear of your personal experiences and insights!

Hi Janet,

I've really got to find time to check out your sites. You have some great topics!

I agree about the Davinci code comment. I read that a few weeks ago (I know, i'm slow...but I didn't feel like buying it, and had to wait on the list at the Library-LOL)Just reading everything about the Divine Feminine made me feel like a better (more divine!) woman.

I'm seroiusly heading over to check out your stuff now!

Hi Karen! Good to see you!

Yes, it was certainly uplifting to read The DaVinci Code--an echo confirming what has been lost in Western culture concerning the divine feminine and her role in spirituality.

I'd love to hear more of your thoughts on this! <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Janet,

While I can't recall my specific thoughts at the moment (maybe it's the Nora Jones CD mellowing me at the moment)I do remeber having a bad taste in my mouth as far as Christinity is concerned.

Don't get me wrong, people are free to believe in who & what they want...I was just dissapointed at the lengths that organized Christianity went to to undermine the Feminine.

It was really a seroius undertaking, from women's roles to sexuality...and the whole EVE debacle. That one issue-- claiming women as the evil temptress and men the dumb-follewers (with no fault in the outcome) has poisoned everthing since. That's why women are blamed when their husband cheats (she must have done something wrong ,etc.)

I know women are powerful, but blaming all mankind sins on the original sin of woman is just a huge cop-out, and an excuse that men still use today.

Ohhh....off topic a bit--where in the heck did all that come from. I've gotta stop listening to this CD! LOL

Karen, I don't think what you're sharing is off topic at all. I mean, how can you talk about the Divine Feminine without talking about how many monotheistic, male-dominated religions have expunged her? The trickle down affect, of course, is placing women lower on the proverbial rung. Christian churches still teach a hierarchy of God, male, female, children, animals. Men are the 'head of the house', pastors (mostly male) are 'head of the church', and so on.

It strikes me that male/Yang separates people into a pyramid with rungs, whereas female/Yin sees humanity more as a circle and series of cycles. Masculine=linear, sequential whereas Feminine=intuitive, abstract.

I've not yet read the book The Alphabet Versus The Goddess but I hear it's a good one.

The Alphabet Versus the Goddess: The Conflict Between Word and Image

So many books...so little time. <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

(Btw, ain't it cool that the Holy Grail is really a womb?)

What has been your experience with the Divine Feminine and Yin energy?

I stumbled onto goddess-centered spirituality a few years ago and really like it. The religion I was raised in does not honor the divine feminine at all, although it says we have a heavenly mother as well as heavenly father.

How have you reconciled the male and female aspects of God into your spiritual practice?

I'm trying to reconnect with the male aspects now so I can have more balance. I have some baggage from the God concept I was raised with and I rejected the male aspects of the divine for several years, which was probably a healing thing, but I feel the need reconnect on my own level.

What are the archetypal evolutions of the feminine that you're noticing in the West?

I think overall there's more recognition of female power and agression as a positive thing although it's still really feared and people are still really ambiguous about it.

Gaia/Earthmother as an archetype is really strong right now with environmentalism and concern for animals, and also with the growing interest in native peoples' spirituality and shamanism, which are very earth-centered. Maybe also present in the trend of women choosing to leave careers to be stay home mothers or to have jobs where they can work at home.

The Witch archetype is strong right now too with the growing popularity of Wicca, witchcraft and feminist spirituality. Witch is all over the place in popular media the last few years nad it's often the shadow side that's portrayed but more and more we're seeing the positive side of it as an archetype of empowerment, wisdom, sisterhood, etc. (Practial Magic for example, or the Sabrina the Witch TV series.)

Also I think Wise Woman/Crone is strong because as the baby boomer generation ages, there's been more attention paid to menopause and sexuality, there are more older actresses making movies in Hollywood and trying to change the status quo there, there are more women in political leadership positions, though still not enough IMHO. The trend of older women dating younger men.

I think there's some archetypal energy going on with the trend of so many single mothers in the U.S. too, and also with more attention paid to lesbian issues. I'm not sure which archetypes on those though.

Also I think with the alternative healing practices becoming more mainstream (massage, aromatherapy, etc.) we're seeing a softer, more feminine side of Healer, which has been a very male dominated archetype, the old guy in the white coat. LOL

Oh, and Warrior too, with more women in the military, and after the 9/11 bombings, women were more eager than men to nail the terrorists and go to war. And with popular media like Xena and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, etc. My daughter watches a show on Disney channel called Kim Possible, about a teenager who's a kickbutt hero, strong, smart, saves the day. There are two boys on the show but they're both sidekicks. How's that for a cool gender role reversal? I love to watch it too. <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Not sure about trends of the world.

Karen, I totally agree. I have a bumper sticker on my car that says "Eve was framed." I get teased about it a lot but it's true!

Yes, Janet, I agree with the "how cool is it that the Grail is a womb"

It should be..."the cradle of life" isn't some remote african cave/spring, it is woman.

I dabbled a bit in wicca a few years back, I'm just not a very astute scholor with it I'm afraid. But I did have some very cool experiences with it. I didn't abandon it, just lapsed at the moment.

Women are very powerful beings (I won't tell you about the time I meditated in the tub, then proceeded to seduce my husband-- and in the end had a startling "vision" of a growling panther at the most inoppritune time!LOL)

While I don't even pretend to know how to go about "drawing down the moon" -- I will stand outside on a crisp evening and bask in its glow-- and come away feeling very electric.

I could go on...but, its enough to say that organized religion had a very good reason to undermind the sacred feminie-- they realized how much of a threat women were...the men were just followers-- like Adam was to Eve. Now he's just following a different gender.

Dang, how do I go off topic like that?

(Love the Eve was framed bumpersticker, by the way...i'd like to find one!)

Oh, and I love the Triple Goddess -Maiden, Mother and Crone. I like her so much that I gravitate to the number three when possible (like picking a gas tank to fuel up at--I know, wierd) and I tend to group objects in three's (pictures, etc.) and I'm considering a small, not-visible-to-the-world tatoo on my lower back that somehow represent the triple goddess/ three moon phases.

Heather and Karen, your posts were so very rich! I very much enjoyed reading them.

Heather, your examples of the archetypal feminine in present-day culture was right on the money. Very insightful! <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> If you're inclined to answer, how are you consciously integrating Yang/the masculine in your life?

Karen, do tell on the meditation and panther! LOL <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> Sounds like you were doing a bit o' shape shifting, my dear! <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> I've always been drawn to the Moon, but didn't realize that it was connected to the Divine Feminine until recently. Sometimes, I'll sit outside on the ground and just stare at the Moon...feeling very connected to it. (Summer and Autumn...surely not in winter! eek )
