Hello!

What are you favorite New Age books and/or authors? What do you like most about the books and/or the author? What have you learned from them?

I look forward to reading about the books and authors that you find interesting and helpful!

Namaste,

I have several titles by Scott Cunningham in my collection, and they all get well-thumbed. He wrote across a wide range of topics before his death in the early 90s and I have material on crystals and Wicca that he wrote. He did some good stuff on herbs too.

One that I've really enjoyed was "Women Who Run With Wolves" by a woman by the last name of Estes. Another favorite is "The Witch in Every Woman" by Laurie Cabot. I do like Cunningham (although I like his _Spell Crafts_ and _ the Magickal Household_ books best). Telesco is also great (really liked _The Urban Pagan_, _A Charmed Life_, and _The Victorian Grimore_), as are Starhawk, Ravenwolf, etc. Anyway, lots of favorites on my list.

LOL Went back and saw that you wanted to know what we'd learned from the books. Sorry, forgot that part. Well, the _women who run with wolves_ book, and _the witch in every woman_ were both great in showing how to explore (through old stories, origional fairy tales, folk tales, etc) all aspects of womanhood, not just the sugar and spice bits that most modern religions push. They were both great at explaining how there is so much more to being a woman than just wife & mother & employee. I think that song "[censored]" by Meridith Brooks really sums up both books.

Other than that, I'm quite the kitchen witch and don't really absorb much of the "ritual aspects of most books. I like simple, quick and easy things I can do in my home (kitchen or otherwise) to bring the spiritual to the everyday.

Thanks for your replies! I'm not familiar with Cunningham or any of the authors except for Estes. I did a small piece in the New Age May 2003 Newsletter about Estes' audio tape Warming The Stone Child: Myths And Stories About Abandonment And The Unmothered Child as sort of a nod to Mother's Day. (Although the timing was coincidental.) I've read small sections in WWRWW, but haven't read the whole thing. I especially like the story about Baby Yaga, the woman with eyes on her breasts, and a mouth where her vulva is.

I really like Marianne Williamson and Wayne Dyer. I have tons of books.
