I walked into a bridal salon after making an appointment and saw several dresses hanging up. I picked one, was told that it would not be ready for 6 months and I said that I didn't have that much time. Then I went and saw another one. Tried it on. Loved it. My mother asked me to try on a few others. By the time I tried on the third one, I realized that there was no need because the first one was the right one for me. My dress was designed for someone 5'11 wearing heels so I got the name of the tailor the bridal salon used and I made an appointment to have the dress shortened.
I think the best way to find your dress is to know what kind you like.. off the shoulder, halter, princess, etc. Then go into a bridal salon. Tell them exactly what you are looking for and if you want it to have "beading, sequins" or any designs on it. That way you won't spend hours looking through dresses that you probably won't like at all.
I'm not a fan of wedding dress shopping on the internet unless you know the designer and the way they size their dresses. I knew my size but found out that the bridal salon designer I went to sizes smaller than actual size. Wouldn't have known that if I bought a dress online.
