Hi everyone! I hope someone can help me! I have always used tea bags when making tea, but this last weekend I tried a tea ball infuser and a tea infuser spoon. Both of them left large quantities of leaves in the bottom of the cup... which I am not used to drinking. Does anyone know secrets to using fine loose tea and how to keep it from getting into your cup? Does anyone have a tips for me? I just don't want to waste money on these infusers if they actually work well. Thanks!

I really have had much success with tea balls. I get the loose tea leaves at the bottom of my cup too. <img src="/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> I use a small square of cheese cloth and 100% cotton string. Sounds kinda weird, I know, but it works.

You just put your tea in the middle of cheese cloth, close it up and tie it off with the string. Pour boiling water over the little bag and let it steep. When you're done, empty out the old tea leaves and hand wash the square. I use a lemon and vinegar mix to wash the cloth and then let it air dry.

I have to say I don't like teaballs. LOL
at all. BUT some folks do enjoy using them.

My preferred method is a brewer pot or in cup fine mesh infuser. No muss no fuss!

Blessings,

If your tea is very, very fine it can slip through the mesh of some tea balls and infusers. You may have to search for an infuser with a finer screen or change to a method the accomodates the very fine tea blend you are using.

I have two infusers in my house, one is a ball, and one is a spoon infuser. The tea ball works for large to medium loose tea and the spoon infuser has an extremely fine screen for use with teeny particulate tea.

There is a product called T-sac that you can buy, its disposable tea bags where you could put very fine tea's and they should stay there when brewed.
But tea leaves are actually good for you, you may want to consider just drinking them. Very high in vitamins and minerals.
Loose leaf tea is the way to go, I have yet to find any tea bags that can live up to even the most mediocre loose leaf teas.
