Hi, I am just wondering if it is possible to propagate a rose from a cut flower, if it has nubs or a growing section on it. Has anyone done this?

The reason why I ask is because I've found a rose that is just beautiful but I can't seem to find the supplier's name(florist won't give it to me) or the rose type.

If anyone can help me, that would be great.

I am not sure about propogating a rose from the flower. The bushes are usually the best start, especially for breeding true. If you try, you may want to dip the end in rooting hormone, place in moist soil, cover with plastic wrap and a rubber band to hold in place over the planter (vent the plastic with a couple of small holes). Other than that, you might try a couple of my favorite websites:

HI, Thanks for the advice, and I thought I'd let you know how it went.

I follwed the instructions for propagating from cuttings, (removed the flower, so that it was like a normal cutting) dipped it into hormone powder, did the prep, and waited. It's been a while now, and so far, I think I'm just a black thumb. There's no sign of any growth on the top, but I think I'll have to be more patient. My sister also did a cutting of another rose at the same time, and hers are already showing signs of root growth and some surface growth. I guess I'm just not much of a gardener. Oh well. I took pictures of the rose, so hopefully when I get them scanned in I'll be able to get help from rose gardeners on the hybrid that this rose was.

Anyway, Thank you again for your reply.

Yume
