Hi Diane,

Well I own Dreamweaver but I have to confess that I do all my html coding by hand. I will convert a file to a Dreamweaver one for a client if that is the way they want to maintain a site I create for them though.

I love the control I feel when I code it by hand. I find editors frustrate me - I feel boxed in.

Hi June,

OH I know what you mean. I love to code by hand. I find it takes longer to learn how to use the HTML editors than it does to code it yourself. And you have so much more control. I use an old copy of 1st Page 2000 just to view the pages as I code them.

Diane

I like coding by hand as well. I worked hard to learn html so I know if I become comfortable with pressing buttons then I'll start forgetting the format. I've used Coffee Cup editor for years and like the company that puts it out.

I really like the new First Page 2006. It's great. You can use straight code or in WYSIWYG

I use Notepad and that's all I've ever used(2 years now).
When I was going to school the teacher wanted us to use Notepad so we would learn the code better. One thing that I couldn't get over was how many students in the class were using WYSIWYG editors and had returned to learn the code!

I also use Coffee Cup Direct FTP which I was afraid of using until I read Diane's article on it and now you couldn't get me to use anything else.

I use Dreamweaver & Crimson. Dreamweaver is good for newbies 'coz if you can't memorize the next step you typed in, it automatically prompt & help you with it. Crimson is good also 'coz aside from consuming low disk space, it is also a user-friendly editor.

I code by hand in Notepad++. The price is right and it has features to help you spot syntactical errors and preview your pages.
