The Communists only maimed and murdered millions upon millions of people; let's give them another chance. In the meantime we can find a substitute for A. Schicklgruber and offer apoligies to the German National socialist Party for all the atrocities we committed against them in the 1940's.
DILIGAF what other people in other countries think of America?

Well, yeah, it was like 1000 dead Brits against 25 million of dead Sviets. Don't compare the scale. Germany's main concern and forces were on the eastern front. What Britain and US did was to make sure that Europe doesn't become entirely red. Yes, it's a goal, right but to say that Brits and Americans won the war. I was amazed after digging a bit deeper below the common propaganda ("D-Day invasion rules, USA and Britain are victors and ... well, USSR also participated." actitude).

As for getting something for "nothing". US got "EVERYTHING". The country that won MOST in the world from WWII was USA. It got rich thanks to the slaughter going on in Europe. Before that, US was just a country, a developed one, but still, not what it is now.

- America abused the WWII situation to come out of dirt, shining in gold, so to speak. I mean, America was a vey average country one century ago. Noone likes that.
- Americans believe they're the best at everything,
- America likes to interfere with other countries' internal affairs when they see fir (i.e. profit/benefit ... be that in $$$ equivalent or some political/strategic advantage). Take Serbia, take Iraq, take Vietnam. Obviously, noone likes that either.
- America strongly influences all international institutions, be those political/social/sport, etc. Many times, you could see biased judging (in favor of USA ofcourse) in different sports. Only sports played in US are added to Olympic games. I bet golf, baseball and american football are somewhere there in the list, waiting for a convenient moment.

That's about sums it up: too arrogant, too ignorant. The heights US have achieved is mainly thanks to imigrants: Germans (mainly), Jews, Russians, etc. [/qb]
When I was living in Poland we were so much influenced by Russia that we really liked America - as a counterbalance. When I was visiting other countries later I realized how people - Arabs, South Americans hate the USA policy.

All of what you said it true. But maybe it is true for every superpower because if I would replace the world "America" by "Soviet Union" in your post it would match it very well.

I still believe that many Americans and American government to the certian extend has some decency. They are able to acknowledge some wrongdoing - this never happened to SU, Russia or China. [/qb]
Well, Jaga, does it make you feel better? I mean, you can't blame water for being wet, correct, but still, it's no good. Maybe it is natural for US to be like that, but they still are arrogant and hostile and that is not good. Also, times are different now, what was Soviet agression back many years ago, is no longer acceptable in the now so called "civilized and democratic" world. USSR had a strong dictatorship, it was a militaristic country. USA is a democratic country, member of all these fancy international organizations and treaties. It's just different now (and it just proves, that democracy is not about freedom of people, it's about: "I want that thingie you have and I'm gonna get it." kind of freedom ... it's all the same).

AINTD, the first article on p. 1 of the NY Herald Tribune announcing the D-Day invasion (June 1944) was that global oil prices will rise to ensure profitability since WW2 would soon end. The invasion was the 2nd article. Yes, WW2 was about oil. FDR built Saudi oil refineries during WW2. Hitler screwed global oil interests by trying to seize Iraq. Stalin played ball with international big business since he betrayed the Spanish Revolution in 1936. After WW2, the Cold War was a profitable sitzkrieg for both USA & USSR. USA lend lease to USSR in WW2 helped build Soviet military-industrial complex. Carl

Why people hate America...
South America for messing in their affairs as we wish, and for us being the Big Kid on the Block.

Arabs and Moslems for our 100% support of Israel in all matters (excepting the last criticism of the Gaza demolition, which seems to be a fluke).

Russians and Communists for us having won the Cold War (for whatever reason we won). And for us being the Big Kid on the Block.

Some of us Americans hate the betrayal of our ideals and practices with the invented War in Iraq and the torture of Iraqis in prison (what will we say in the next war when Americans are the prisoners?). We had the envy of the world for our freedom, as far as they can understand it, and for our idealism. That has been betrayed by Bush and the American prison keepers in Iraq.

It will take decades for our reputation to be reconstructed. Perhaps in those decades our arrogance will be more measured and not so blatant, thus generating less hatred toward us.

Everyone hates America to some degree. The reasons you've mentioned are only partially true. USA won the cold war? When was that? Anyway, I believe Soviets detested USA all the way and certainly before the fall of USSR. It's just a natural enemy. Why? Well, maybe because USA gained everything and lost nothing in WWII, while USSR lost millions of people and was in a pretty bad state. Maybe because USSR was the only country which could actually compete with USA in military and technological terms. China hates USA for opposing them in their own local affairs as well as people are strongly brainwahed that the American system represents evil in its purest form ... there is some sense in that. Europe hates USA, but being under its strong influece, have to keep it to themselves for now. France occasionally shows desobedience. Germany if very dependant. Other countries don't have the guts to say their own word, nor do they need to, since they are all "represented" by some other bigger country (France or Germany). UK, I don't know, Brits are weird. They are USA's allies but because noone really likes UK in Europe. If you want a analogy then:

USA would be new big arrogant dude, standing in the outskirts of a very cosy European village. UK would be a village kid nobody likes, so he runs back and forth between his home and that big bloke who (also needs someone inside the village) tells him what to do. France would be village's 'most decent citezen'. Not having that much power, but still influencial enough. On the other side of the village (in the woods if you like) lies Russia who communicates with the village by exchanging raw materials and also serving as a balance guardian, wild and odd people, but still they have plenty of spears and arrows of their own. Then, also outside the village you have fields rich in food (read oil) and USA, while not being able to directly enter the town, feels free to "reorganize" its outskirts "for the better of all of us". Owners of the fields obviously resist. Some of the less brighter townfolks (Spain - living right next to the fields (not rich in oil, but with the same owner)) goes in with "Let me help you!" attitude hoping for some future benefits. Everyone knows the outcome. Then there is one bad house in Europe, it's ugly, it's rotten, you can hear many quarrels coming from it - Serbia and former Yugoslavia. So, the big dude says: "Let me come in and solve the thing." and before receiving any answer he gets in and does the "Hulk smash you!" thing. Then it goes like: "Well, it's all done, no need to thank me. Sorry, the house is a mess now, but since I've spent too much strength smashing it, it's now up to you folks, to rebuild it."

So, who can love USA?
