Understanding the story of Jesus from a Mideast perspective shows that what reportedly happened to him is in accordance with the Mideast culture, which even persists today. He was killed because he violated some lethal taboos, not because Jews are intrinsically evil & committed deicide.
Lloyd Webers musical "Jesus Christ Superstar tried to reconcile Christianity & Marxism by portraying Jesus as a revolutionary & the Sanhendrin as narrow, insecure toadies of the Romans. One melody in that musical resembles Shostakovich's "Soviet "Young Guard. Gibsons movie: The Passion" doesn't address any political issues including those of Mideast politics involved, namely:.
. Keep in mind that the Mideast is in Asia. Jesus criticized elders: the Sanhendrin, and criticizing elders has been punishable by death in Asia (re: kids in Tianneman square in China in 1980's).
. Mideasterners play chess (deception) while Westerners play football up front). By advocating non-violence, Jesus threatened popular support the Scutari, Hebrew guerrillas who ambushed Roman soldiers.
. Jesus was a Nazarine who where disliked by Jerusalemites.
IMHO, Gibson, his supporters & critics view "The Passion" through the eyes of Westerners. They need a journey to the Mideast..
