Okay, my waist-length hair has been officially designated as "thin" by a couple of stylists, though I pretty much knew that anyway! I have bangs. My hair has just a little of natural wave. Is there any way to get any lift into it, without a perm? It's quite flat on my head, even when freshly washed, and I hate that.

My stylists have also said that although my hair is thin I have a lot of it. It doesn't seem like it to me, but I'm repeating what I was told!

Any help would be very much appreciated!!

I would call your hair 'fine' From what you say, it sounds like you have alot of little tiny hairs.

The length will cause your hair to be flat. Fine hair is not strong enough to support the weight. To be honest, even if you had coarse hair (not tiny but fat) it would likely be flat.
Fine hair may even lay flat on top with a perm and would definately go flat again as soon as the perm grew out about one or two months.

The only thing I can suggest is to use a gel designed for fine hair. Apply it to the root area - right at your scalp - and blow your hair dry upside down, making sure the root area gets dry first, to give it some lift.

You could layer your hair so that the hair on top is not as long but that may thin out the ends, depending on how much hair you have. fish

'Fine' is what I meant to say, not 'thin'! Thank you Lynne! <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Now I've had perms, with some layers, that put some volume in my hair and I've been pretty happy with that. But yes, with layers the ends do look somewhat thin (and I meant to say thin there!).

I didn't know anybody made a gel specifically for fine hair. Is there a particular brand, or do many brands make some?

I've also crimped it, and that added volume, but now I don't have a crimper. *sigh*

Thanks very much Lynne. (I like your name, I've always thought 'Lynne' is very pretty.)

Thank you for the kind words. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Alot of professional brands make a gel for fine hair. The first ones I think of are:
ARTec Volume gel, Pure Hair(byARTec), Glisten Gel by MOP.....
