Does anyone know what could cause a washing machine to deposit black marks on the clothing. The marks are on everything, but we have a lot of dark clothing & its mainly showing up on my daughter's white tops.

have you tried running a load with nothing in it but some white vinegar? Try a cold cycle, then a hot cycle, and see if that gets out what seems to be lodged in your machine. You could add a white towel and some sneakers and detergent to your first 'run' after that, and see if there are still the black marks. The sneakers will help by bouncing around and shaking things up a bit. let me know if that helps or not. if not, we can move on to stage 2. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Since this was mainly happening during my daughter's loads, we figured out that if she put in a smaller load, the marks didn't show up. So, I think it was just that she was overfilling the washer & that whatever was causing it is because the clothing was too high in the basket. For now, we solved the problem by putting in smaller loads.
