Today I am grateful that I have a voice to speak out for those who are victims of racism and sexism. Every person deserves to be respected for who they are, even if they happen to have skin of a different color or female body parts. We all deserve to be heard and listened to.
I will do my part to say something when I hear a person making a comment about "All Hispanics think about knifing my tires in the parking lot. Every single one."
I will do my part to say something when I hear a person saying "Every black person considers throwing themself in front of my car to make money from a frivolous lawsuit. Every single one."
And yes, I know people who have said things like that.
In addition to, of course, the male teacher who says to a female student in an engineering college, "Women don't belong in my class." Luckily, that was not said to me. But it was said to a contemporary of mine, in my college.
