Yes, and it often puts our ancestors' lives into a perspective that we may not have considered. My grandparents were from Italy and arrived in NYC in early 1900. I watched the Italian Americans on PBS recently and (even if they had been from somewhere else) I could envision them walking down the avenues or streets in NYC, wearing clothes of the period, entering local shops, going to the movies or theatre, and living in the brownstone apartments. Genealogy is fascinating.
