Babies don't actually cost that much. Feeding is free, a crib is completely unnecessary, cloth diapers have hit 2008 and save thousands, Freecycle gives you plenty of clothes for free, the best baby food comes from the blender, decent insurance covers all but all of pregnancy and delivery, baby slings are cheap, most of Babies R Us is unnecessary. Juggling schedules eliminates any need for child care, this is what good parents do in order to keep from other people from raising their babies. Presumably they're paying Scott to do this show, I think he can handle a few extras if needed.

I watched a couple of episodes last season. He seemed an unlikely character to settle down or take care of a baby. I hope things turn out for him for the child's sake.

From what I've seen of it, this show sickens me. Last season, he was fighting commitment issues; unsure of whether or not he wanted to be exclusive with his girlfriend. This season he's magically ready to settle down and get married now that the girlfriend's knocked up. How romantic.....

They're not mine, I'm afraid, although I wish they were! They are baby Eurasian badgers - my boyfriend and I support a wildlife centre which takes in abandoned badgers (and other animals) and raises them until they can be released back into the wild. We've adopted a couple of adult badgers who live at the centre permanently, as they are not well enough to cope with the big wide world.

There's just something about badgers that I find really appealing.

Ha ha! It seems to me that, unlike you, Mr. Baio is sensible enough to realise that children are babies (and therefore relatively cheap) for a very short period of time - the cost issue is a whole different ball game by the time you get to teenagers. I wish more people realised that.

By the way, baby food is only free if the mother is able to breastfeed exclusively (no way to tell beforehand), and even nappies (diapers), clothes and associated equipment cost something. When you say that "a crib is completely unnecessary", do you expect your child to sleep on the floor once it's too old to share your bed (which I presume to be your temporary substitute of choice)?

It's precisely this sort of short-term, unrealistic thinking which gets people into trouble.

I see people like that...they do the "freebie" thing as much as possible. They all get together and borrow and exchange from each other. That's why this is all they talk about b/c this seems to be very time consuming. My BFF has children and she tells me this stuff. She had a different set of friends from me that all had kids and then she had me on the side. She said most of the moms got on her nerves but she felt kinda forced to hang with them b/c it was easier when the kids were young.

Also, she said that a lot of these moms let their children sleep with them and DH...which she seems to think that is why most of the marriage's fall apart later in life. The moms are so wrapped up in the kids that by the time they (dh & mom) get older they don't connect anymore.
