My brother and his girlfriend recently had their first baby! Cute as can be. Really, he is a GORGEOUS baby He was born Oct.19, 3:03am, 21 inches long, 6 lbs 14 oz. Name: Koen Jacob

Her water broke around 7am on the 18th, they went to the hospital but they weren't ready yet, went home and stayed there as long as they could. Went back to the hospital at midnight and he was born at 3:03am.

My husband was born within 11 minutes of arriving at the hostpital and his 2 sisters took no longer than 2 hours, and 3 hours.

What about the rest of you?? How long were you in labour? Or how long was YOUR mom in labour with you?

1st Labour - Start (waters breaking) to finish - 5 hours ten minutes.

2nd Labour - ditto - 3 hours four minutes.

The latter was a home birh.

What a neat question...

1st labor-water breaking to baby born, 36 hrs.!! (this was a hospital birth, she really wasn't ready to be born and so i wasn't really "In labor" for most of it)

2nd labor-about 16 hrs. (homebirth-4 hrs. of which were anything hard at all)

3rd labor (just 7 weeks ago, another homebirth!)- 8 hrs. from start to finish!

So, each time my labor time was really cut in half, like some people say it will be. But really, this last labor and birth were so wonderful and I totally credit my chiropractor with it! (well, most of it....my other 2 babies were in the posterior position, and this one wasn't due to the Webster technique which I MADE the chiro do twice weekly before her birth!)

Thanks for getting these good conversations started! I love seeing response on this board!

From water breaking until my son was born - 19 hours
Hospital birth. It was easy going (except for the annoying nurse who kept saying I wasnt in enough pain) and I slept until it was time to push.

It's always interesting to learn about other people

Those of you who had a home birth, and a hospital birth, which one did you like best? Would you reccommend one over the other? I know every woman, and every pregnancy is different, but just as a general opinion, which did you prefer?

1st-Was supposed to be a birthing center birth; but the boy's big head wasn't moving anywhere. The midwife shipped me off to the hospital. 12 hours at the hospital--then a C.

2nd-Scheduled C. No labor.

Friday night: labor started. Three trips to hospital. The forth time the kept me because a snow storm was developing. They said I wasn't in enough pain, it wasn't real yet, blah blah blah. Broke my water Saturday, don't know what time. Told me I would have a Sunday morning baby. Monday morning came, had a c-section. 2 weeks over due.

Guess why I have one LOL.

That is what I get for such an easy pregnancy I guess

There is no question for me, I would never, ever choose a hospital birth again after my homebirths! If you read my articles on this site you are not aurprised:)

My reasons:
My hospital birth was so interventive even though I didn't want any interventions. It was my first birth so in a way I didn't know any better. The worst part was they took my baby from me right after birth for several hours. There was just NO need for everything that was done to me. Birth is normal and we need to respect that every woman does it a little bit differently.

My last birth was the best so far. I labored in the pool, with my daughter, husband and friends right there. No exams, nothing...just me reaching up every now and then to see if I could feel the head! It was so empowering and beautiful and wonderful. And my daughter came into this world in peace surrounded only by those who love her.

It's homebirth all the way for me....
