So I was looking up different reasons people choose to have and not have kids and found two interesting articles. One is very logical and well thought out and the other is... well.. insane in my opinion. Take a look and let me know what you all think. About the first text: almost scary how many sensible reasons against having kids can be found, most of them overlooked and minimized by pretty much everybody. Of course you can argue the text exaggerates. That so many bad things don't happen to everybody, but the fact is all of them happen to somebody. If you know that some, maybe 10% can apply to you, it is more than enough to give the whole breeding process a second thought.

The second website is hilarious. Have a child to fight world depopulation? It must be a great joke. The other reasons are feeble and arguable but that is plain ridiculous.
That children with siblings are better at sharing is such a stereotype! I read somewhere that some only children groups wanted to stop the media from using only child and selfish as synonyms. It might be taking political correctness too far, but assuming that someone lacks some moral virtues because s/he has no siblings is unbelievable cruel and not even supported by facts. It is hurtful and stupid and almost "racist". But then, what can you expect from a religious website?

Thank God (lol), I am not religious at all. I use to think I was respectful of other people beliefs though, but with the time I am losing some of that respect too. I don't think most religions are respectful of other people's choices in general, and of the choice not to reproduce in particular.

Solalux ~ I am 100% athiest and agree with you totally cool. Most religions are of the thinking "my way or no way" and totally self-centered. I have 'lost' friends and relatives because I don't believe as they do. Oh, well.......whatever wall

I am a Christian...yet am shocked by the religious website. How having a kid ends abortion confuses me to no end...if I were accidentally pregnant, other's kids would be THE reason to get an abortion, not the case against it.

And an immortal soul? Excuse me, but if I remember right, kids grow up and cannot be promised to always be as "godly" as they are raised. For people whom believe kids are innocent, they have to remember that kids grow up to make their own decisions, whether good or bad. For all these parents know, their little Johnny could be the next drug dealer, thief, or rapist...and that's certaintly not godly, is it?

Finally, whether or not it is factual that the world's population can fit in Texas is not the most intelligent argument to make. Let's say we can fit all of us into Texas...is there enough food, water, shelters, resources to make these shelters, etc. etc. to sustain all of these people? There isn't enough for the people on the earth now, so if we all move to Texas it would make no difference!

Wow. I also know some people whom have become parents and lost all the patience they once had...kids may teach some people things, but people are individuals and cannot be generalized on what good will come out of their lives if they reproduce.

This article doesn't anger me, but instead makes me shake my head and laugh without humor. smirk
