My Father's folk art expresses his days of youth in Montana - the wildlife, the wilderness, and even the stagecoaches that rushed through the lands. You can read this article at the following link: My Father's Folk Art I hope you enjoy it. As always, I welcome feedback.

Phyllis,
That was beautiful. What an incredible legacy he left you and your family. He created his art from the heart - the best way I think. It sounds like he inspired your creativity as well.

Thank you so much, Trish. Yes, he did inspire me - and the legacy he left us is invaluable to the family. Most of his work was from memories of his youth and it is so wonderful to actually see his "memories" sitting on our shelves, on the mantle, or on the wall.

It is a little hard to see in the pheasant carving above, but right under the pheasant, in the grass, is the hunting dog my Dad had, Duke.

Phyllis, you have such a gift for recounting your father's stories! I'm enchanted by the miraculous ways that our own lives are shaped by that of our loved ones, and so deeply appreciate your sharing your father's stories and very special works of folk art with us. Thank you! (Are these slices of polished wood that he used?)
Shannon

Thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement, Shannon. Yes, my father has done a lot to shape my life, especially on the creative side. He was extremely instrumental in helping me to develope in my spiritual growth, too.
The woods he cut himself and the shine comes from the strokes he made by hand when carving down into the wood to bring the images out - kind of like a sculpture would with marble. He would see some piece of wood and stare at it from every angle till he saw the picture in it then carved it out. Or sometimes, he had the picture already in mind and looked for the right piece of wood that would take it.
