[color:#993399][b]OK, two days ago it was Hill's Science Diet and today it is Purina and 37 others!
Make sure you know who manufactures your Pet Food ie Fancy Feast is manufactured by Purina which is owned by Nestles company. Here is the link to the lastest Reuters:
Pet deaths expected to rise despite recall: FDA

My mother in law's beagle was put to sleep yesterday. She developed an infection but in her weakened condition the food may have injured her further. My MIL was feeding her Alpo and something else. It does make you wonder.

[color:#993399][b]I was just on another board and in the thread on this subject there was 17 pages of posts. These two had valuable information: BellaOnline ALERT: Raw URLs are not allowed in these forums for security reasons. Please use UBB code. I have added some pages to my wellness site for Healthy Pets which includes a basic dog food recipe and a basic dog treat recipe. From now on, my dogs are only getting what I make for them instead of canned foor or commercial dog treats. I do use Solid Gold dry pet food as I think it is about the best in the way of ingredients.
I added up what I spent on making my own food and treats and it will come out less expensive than switching to a better quality brand of foods. Dog treats, unless you get good organic or whole food treats at a pet store, aren't mostly very good quality.
I think this pet food recall may wake people up to the ingredients in most commercial food but if you want good quality pet food with whole, natural ingredients you are going to pay a premium for it.
I do believe too that these companies mostly do care about our pets and, while they also care about the bottom line, they wouldn't maliciously endanger the pets of America. It's up to each individual pet owner to be careful in what they give their pets, just as they are careful in what they eat themselves. Quality food equals quality health.

I agree with everything you said and will be checking out your recipes also. I have been making my own dog food for awhile now because of Annie's allergies but my cats are now eating Mom's homecookin' too now!

If you have a good cat food recipe that your cats like, I'd love to have it. I tried giving my 3 cats homemade food but they are partial to fish, which is kind of hard to keep on hand. They do like chicken but not mixed with anything.
I haven't really investigated the cat food recipes yet. Do you know of a good website for that?
Thanks, Joan

Joan, my cats decided to starve instead of eat my concoctions so I have temporarily switched to Solid Gold Katz N Flocken kibble. www.solidgoldhealth.com It does not receive any ingredients from Menu Foods and seems to have only healthy/holistic ingredients. I will continue to try different home recipes also because this stuff is expensive! I'll let you know if any are a hit!

I was in my vet's office yesterday and he said "as long as you stay away from the canned food you will be fine." I trust this man more than I trust the media or the alarmists who are blowing this issue way out of proportion. Yes, it is a tragedy that our pet food isn't 100% safe, and yes I have lost an animal to kidney failure, but it wasn't because of the food I was feeding my cats. It just happens. Like the cat I lost to liver failure. Or the dog I lost to cancer, and the one who was poisoned in my back yard while I was at work. I'm also not convinced that home-cooked meals are going to deliver all the nutrients that our dogs and cats need, either.

I use Solid Gold dry food for my dogs and they really thrive on it so may try the dry cat food too. I'd like to get away from canned cat food but the three of them circle around at a certain time each day for it so not sure how to wean them off that habit. They also eat dry food.

OK, the cats like the Solid Gold kibble and I have also been giving them organic yogurt, oatmeal with cinnamon and some chix soup w/veggies. They ate the yogurt, part of the oatmeal and drank all the soup and left the chix & veggies. I'm making fish and brown rice for the dog and me tomorrow so the cats will get some of that also. I only gave them wet food for a treat so they are happy with what I am giving them in addition to the kibble.
The dog had a baked potato sliced, turkey burger, carrots and mixed veggies mixed with Dream Coat and Dr. Carol's Vitamins . Of course, we are still doing an Aloe Detox in the water for the next week for both the dog and the cats. Annie thinks Mom's homecookin' is great but I'm going to buy some Solid Gold for her also and hope it doesn't cause her food allergies to flare up. I'll know pretty quick.
