I watched this on the PBS World Channel last night. Was disappointed in the way they covered female feature film directors. The show gives you the impression that there were no women directors between Dorothy Arzner in the 30s and Kathryn Bigelow in the 90s. No mention made of Ida Lupino, Elaine May, Lee Grant, Penny Marshall, Joyce Chopra, Martha Coolidge, Claudia Weill, or Shirley Clarke. Writer Becky Aikman in her book on the making of "Thelma & Louise" ("Off the Cliff") delivers an excellent survey of the women who were directing films, despite the obstacles, throughout the 70s and 80s.
