Yesterday in a book store I learned about PÃ¥skekrim (Easter crime), an unexpected Norwegian pastime. No, they don't take up committing crimes for Easter, but reading crime stories at Easter is a tradition. As are TV murder mysteries of any vintage. Giving a friend a book for Easter is more likely than chocolate (and, I'm thinking, less fattening).
It all started in 1923 with a marketing campaign for a new book. It appeared on the front page of a newspaper and looked like a real story. It was a success, so the publishers did it again the following year and somehow out of that it grew and grew.
