They did a TERRIFIC job of redoing Dr. WHO! I remember watching the original when I was little. Nice and hokey. And this one is the same way. Great job! I think I will get the DVD when it comes out July 4th!

The new season has a new Doctor and a new side kick!

Does anyone watch Torchwood...a sort of spinoff with Captain Jack as the main character?
Posted By: Trish-D Re: Doctor WHO - 02/05/08 08:11 PM
I admit I like Torchwood better than Dr. Who. My husband the Dr. fanatic could just kick me. But I still love the doc. grin

LOVE TORCHWOOD. I put up with Christopher leaving Dr. Who but when Billie did I gave it up.

Yea, I miss Billie Piper as well but this is what the doctor has always done, he changes out women. Dr. Who has been on since I was in high school.

I loved Christopher Eccleston but I love David Tennant too for completely different reasons. I also have to say I adore "Torchwood." It's practically the only show I keep up with these days. What does everyone think of the second season so far?

I'm with Lisa. If you are an original Doctor Who fan from back in the day, then you are accustomed to the frequent actor changes. It's a bit like soap operas. I don't know what they do nowadays, but when I was an ardent fan back in the 80s actors were switched out all the time. Who can forget the deep voice intoning, "Today the role of Doctor Johnson will be played by James Jones" at the beginning of a scene that featured a replacement actor?

I am also a fan of Torchwood. Poor Tosh never catches a break, does she?

Did anyone see that bit from the 2007 Christmas special that featured an appearance from Peter Davison (meeting the new doctor, David Tennant)? The dialogue was just brilliant.

Oops, sorry, I think I was mistaken, it was not the Christmas special, it was the Children in Need special. Anyway, I love when David Tennant is talking about how not everyone can carry off wearing a vegetable...and at the end where he gets serious and says, I loved being you...you were my doctor. Lovely.

Isn't there a rumor that Billie is coming back?

Yep, so is the bride.
Posted By: lngilbert Re: Doctor WHO - 04/02/08 01:25 AM
I HATE the bride!!! Would rather have that girl from The Angels Have the Phonebox episode ... which is that? Blink!
Posted By: Trish-D Re: Doctor WHO - 04/28/08 09:46 PM
I really love the Donna Noble character. I didn't see the bride episode where she was introduced, so I don't know if her personality has changed much.

I just love the way she talks back to the doctor and that she isn't all ga ga over him like the girls were. She is my favorite companion of the new series.

She reminds me of some of the companions from the old series when there didn't seem to be the romance notion between the doc and his companions. Am I a fuddy duddy for thinking that is just a silly component to add to the show?

Billie Piper came back for two episodes (perhaps a two-part episode, more accurately); Donna Noble is back as a companion, replacing Martha for a little while (she's supposed to return, though). Personally, I liked Donna too--not necessarily for the contrast between her relationship to the doctor versus other companions, but because she's just so over-the-top abrasive and clueless. I can't think of a companion who was ever quite so out of it...and that's got great comedy potential if you ask me.

What do you think of the Doctor's daughter?
Posted By: Helen - SciFi TV Re: Doctor WHO - 06/11/08 11:36 PM
Haven't gotten that far yet! Anyone else seen the Doctor's daughter (sorry, still on the first episode of the most current season and trying to catch up).

I thought the Doctor's daughter would be annoying, but it was nice how she evolved throughout the show.

What I would say is, without giving too much away, how the Doctor manages to cope, every episode seems to be heartbreaking for him!!
