Is that it?
Yes! You are right!

That is 1 point for you!
FOURTH SEPTEMBER TAROT TRIVIA CONTEST QUESTION:

How does the Hierophant card remind us of our connectedness with others and the "universe"?
The Hierophant represents formal groups of people, whether spiritual, educational or just social.

All people need to feel like they are part of a group such as a culture. We learn how to play nicely with the other children , which brings us a feeling of security and connects us to others.
Also, the Hierophant reminds us that our actions have a direct impact on everything and everyone around us. Each of us is an integral part of the universe. We are connected on every level.

Morigaine
Yes Ann, good answer - that is 2 points for you.

Morigaine, welcome! Your answer was superb as well.
FIFTH SEPTEMBER TAROT TRIVIA CONTEST QUESTION:

That would be cups.

Morigaine
Yes Morigaine!

That is 1 point for you now!
SIXTH SEPTEMBER TAROT TRIVIA CONTEST QUESTION:

Which tarot suit corresponds to Leo, Aries and Sagittatius?
Wands=Fire (Swords according to some theorists)
Yes, Janet!

You are right! That is 2 points for you!
EIGHTH SEPTEMBER TAROT TRIVIA CONTEST QUESTION:

Fill in the blank:

"The ________ will guide us to inner wisdom.
She is the spirit of peace and grace.
Let us be silent, and let us listen,
So we can heal with her gift of peace."
Hi again!

Just taking a guess. Never seen the quote...

Sounds like the High Priestess card.

Yah?
You are a wonderful guesser (though I suspect your answer came more from your fine knowledge than happenstance, chuckle).

You are totally right,..that is 2 points for you now too,...this is getting exciting.
NINTH SEPTEMBER TAROT TRIVIA CONTEST QUESTION:

In a 3 card spread, what could the King of Coins/Pentacles as the central card mean?
hmmm...

Let me try and tackle this.

First we have to decide what each of the positions of the cards will stand for, since
there are many three card spreads.

If we use "past, present, and future" we still have the issue of the nature of the question being asked -- material or spiritual, for example.

The central card would reflect what the querant is going through at present, and what his thoughts/emotions are in regards to the question.

The King of Pentacles is a card that deals well(if well dignified) with material matters. It's the fiery part of Earth, so some action/momentum is implied. This King is also hard working and clever especially in these material matters.

For me, it's hard to tell what this card would mean without the other cards present to establish the proper context. I'd think this would be a wonderful card to see (properly dignified) if you were asking a question about chances of success in a job, or real estate deal, or some such thing.

But, then again, what if your last card was a seven of disks/pentacles. It might mean an unprofitable venture...

But, I'm rambling.

This was a wonderful exercise for me. I know this is a contest and all, but I'm curious as to what everyone else thinks.

Take care!
The king could also represent a father figure in the querent's life who is possibly giving them advice, or material support.
Yes h_curious!

That is 3 points for you now.

Thanks for your great answer and feedback on the "exercise" involved to answer this question.

I do have a feature on spreads, "Spreads 101". The three card spread was featured with the King of Coins in the center position, as an example.

The forum discussion that targets this spread can be found here:
3 Card Spread Discussion

The article on it is here:

Tarot Spread Tutorial : 3 Card Spread
SUMMARY OF POINTS TO DATE:

Morigaine - 2
Ann - 2
Janet - 2
h_curious - 3

Wow, what a close competition!!!
TENTH SEPTEMBER TAROT TRIVIA CONTEST QUESTION:

Which tarot suit corresponds to the suit of Clubs?
Clubs=Wands

--
Do you know if playing cards came after packs of tarot cards, or if playing cards were tarot cards in their own right?

They don't call me h_curious for nuthin'.

P.S. Thanks for the link to tarot spread tutorial!
Right again, h_curious!

You now have 4 points.

My understanding is that the tarot came first: playing cards used to be hand painted but once woodcuts evolved and more could be produced, a certain "look" evolved to distinguish regular cards from tarot cards. Of course, playing cards can be used in a reading just as well as tarot cards are used.
ELEVENTH SEPTEMBER TAROT TRIVIA CONTEST QUESTION:

Someone asks you to draw a card for them, to answer the question, "Will I live a long life?"
You draw the No. 13 Card of the Major Arcana. How would you answer their question?
The 13th card is Death. I would *carefully* interpret this card to mean that it is important that this person to take better care of himself... to make some positive changes in his life, and that yes, he will live a long and happy life.
Good answer, Morigaine!

It is so important to look beyond the "literal" meaning of a card and seek all possible answers. "Death" does not always (for the most paet, rarely) means actual early or imminent death.

That is 3 points for you now!
TWELVTH SEPTEMBER TAROT TRIVIA CONTEST QUESTION:

Fill in the blank to the following quote with the appropriate tarot suit.

"A preponderance of __________ in a spread points strongly to career or work-related matters, particularly its organizational and creative aspects."
I rarely, if ever, pull the Death card...but I love it! (Must be the Scorpionic elements! LOL) I see the Death card as akin to the Phoenix.

Now, if the Tower card came up in that spread... eek

Wands!
Yes, Ann...

That is 3 points for you now too!

You are so right about the Tower card, Janet. It could make one "gulp" if drawn in relation to the "long life" question,....gulp eek
THIRTEENTH SEPTEMBER TAROT TRIVIA CONTEST QUESTION:

Which face card can be described as "assertive to the point of being domineering; can be cold and remote in interpersonal relationships, thus seem (or actually be) isolated and somewhat lonely"?
queen of swords?
My guess is the King of Swords (reversed). Very interesting trying to figure this one out!
I think so, too, Morgaine. It is fun trying to figure these cards out.

After I posted, and was doing some chores, I realized I was hasty in my answer and meant to put up a different card.

I could see the card in my head, but my fingers got ahead of me. Darn! <g>

Take care!
You both have given great answers, and Morgaine - yours was correct. However, the Bella forum contest rules have a rule that an answer can not be accepted if edited. Unfortunately, I can't give you this point - I am so sorry!!!

I am also glad you are enjoying these questions, and I hope this glitch won't discourage your participation.
FOURTEENTH SEPTEMBER TAROT TRIVIA CONTEST QUESTION:

How would you explain the difference between the Kings and Knights to a novice reader?
I would explain that the King is similar to the Father archetype--or the full manifestation of a mature male--while the Knight is similar to a teenager/young male--full of impetuous energy and can-do attitude (and often headstrong!) These cards can be describing character traits (which means females can be represented by these cards, especially ones with Yang energy), mentors, or people surrounding the situation.
Great answer Janet...

That is 3 points for you!
FIFTEENTH SEPTEMBER TAROT TRIVIA CONTEST QUESTION:

Fill in the blanks:

The suit of Cups is associated with the _________ element because _______________________.
Cups are associated with the Water element because they deal with the emotions and feelings, being creative and artistic, and even intuitivness.

They get their energy from Binah, or the creative world, and reflect the water signs of the Zodiac. (Pisces, Cancer, and Scorpio)

With this suit, I think of the Moon, and it's energies. If you look at the shape and nature of a cup it's receptive-- like the Yin aspect of things.
Wow, excellent answer, h_curious!

You now have 5 points!
SIXTEENTH SEPTEMBER TAROT TRIVIA CONTEST QUESTION:

Fill in the blank:

The _______________ shows the evolved male characteristics of self-discipline, organization, stability and using action as the path to fulfillment.
The Emperor!
Right you are Ann!

You now have 4 points!!
SEVENTEENTH SEPTEMBER TAROT TRIVIA CONTEST QUESTION:

Which suit indicates our desire to seek the Truth, to call "a Spade a Spade"?

h_curious: 5
Ann: 4
Morigaine: 3
Janet: 3
Swords
Yes, Ann - right again!

That is now 5 points for You!!
EIGHTHTEENTH SEPTEMBER TAROT TRIVIA CONTEST QUESTION:

Fill in the blank:

The ___________________ symbolizes foresight, understanding, inner wisdom and intuition.
Is this the High Priestess?
Is it the Moon?
It is the High Priestess, h_curious.

You now have 6 points.

My this is a close contest!
NINETEENTH SEPTEMBER TAROT TRIVIA CONTEST QUESTION:

Fill in the blank with the correct Major Arcana card:

The ________ card is very positive and signifies a period of calm and serenity for the Querant. Difficulties are resolved and the path ahead becomes much clearer.
That would be the Star.
Yes, Morigaine,

That is now 4 points for you!
TWENTIETH SEPTEMBER TAROT TRIVIA CONTEST QUESTION:

Which suit is associated with the emotional aspects of our lives?
Cups (my favorite suit)!
Right again, Morigaine!

Cups are lovely, aren't they?

That is now 5 points for you!
TWENTY-FIRST SEPTEMBER TAROT TRIVIA CONTEST QUESTION:

Which of the suits is considered "fiery"?
Wands!
Yes!

You now have 6 points, Morigaine!
TWENTY-SECOND SEPTEMBER TAROT TRIVIA CONTEST QUESTION:

Which tarot card is represented by two figures and why two?
The Lovers, because the card represents human relationships of all kinds, and because it takes two to tango  .
Great answer Ann, chuckle,...

That is now 6 points for you!

My goodness, Ann, Morigaine and h_curious are all tied at 6 points!!!!
TWENTY-THIRD SEPTEMBER TAROT TRIVIA CONTEST QUESTION:

Which Major Arcana card represents a period of intense hard work, an uphill struggle against setbacks and problems - yet gives strength of character to see these problems through to resolution?
I believe this would be the Chariot.
Right you are Morigaine!!

That is 7 points for you!
TWENTY-FOURTH SEPTEMBER TAROT TRIVIA CONTEST QUESTION:

Which tarot author/theorist developed a tarot deck based on the life of Siddhartha?
Robert M. Place (the Buddha Tarot).
Yes, right again!
