I got my Kindle for Christmas.

I love it - but am still getting used to it. I read a lot of non-fiction for research purposes. Using a highlighter in a regular book works so well, cuz I can just flip through the book looking for the things I highlighted.

With the Kindle.... ugh! Still figuring that one out LOL!!!

I read recently that more people buy fiction for their ereaders, but for non-fiction, book sales are still higher.

It makes sense. I use the Quran every day and I use post it notes and high light pens. Is there an option for highlighting in Kindle? If there is that would be brilliant!

There is an option to highlight, and I think there's a search option too. The issue is I need to stop treating it like a book and trying to make it act like a book LOL! I need to learn to interact with an ereader eek

And I must admit - as I'm reading Mists of Avalon, that big ol' heavy book, I'm thinking "gee... if it was on my Kindle, it would be so much easier to read in bed!" LOL.

Definitely! re big ol' heavy book versus kindle! Bed! etc. with lavender coffee and melon!

Yes you need to apply your mind to it as a machine that works for you! It will do as you tell it so long as you know how to tell it, all will be well in Deanne's kindle realm!

Right, so now we figure out if I am smarter than an ereader LOL!!!

So far, it's not looking good in my favor!

I definitely agree that heavy books are easier to read in Kindle format!

I'm not a book marker - I am the type who never writes in her books. So I don't have the book marking desires to try to translate into e-format. I do write tons of notes, because it's easier for me to skim my notes later on, rather than go reading the entire book again to look for what I highlighted. So maybe it's just a different technique!

You can highlight in Kindle and you can bookmark.

Of particular interest in doing reserach is that not only can you search a Kindle book for a word or phrase, but you can specify the search to look through ALL the books on your Kindle

Search, highlight and bookmark are all on the pop-up menu you get when pressing the Menu key.
I only use the Kindle app on my iPad. Talk about reducing clutter. I always look for an eBook first now.

One cool thing I noticed is that you can also see what areas other people have bookmarked who have read the same book.

Another thing is that all your highlights are save in a file called 'clippings' so you have them all together and also you can copy that clippings file to your PC if - for example - you are quoting a section of a book in a research paper.

Reading books on an e-reader is so much better.
