It can happen that I'll need to learn how to drive on left side of the road - does anybody have this experience? Is it hard? Should it necessarily be a car with stirring wheel on the right?

Hi Tatiana,

I live in the UK, so driving on the left is natural. Most cars have the steering wheel on the right, but you can drive a 'continental' type car with the steering wheel on the left if you want to without any special permission needed. I don't know what the law is though for any driving test - i think it doesnt matter. I know how confusing it can be driving on the other side when I have been driving on the continent - good luck.

Hi Carol,

Thanks for wishing me good luck. I tried driving on the Caymans once but panicked and miserably failed. Tt's good to know that I can at least try with my own car.

Hi Tatiana,
I live in Ireland, moved here from Germany over 4 years ago. I already had my driving licence so I could just start driving. It really isn't hard at all, honest.
I would suggest driving a car with the steering on the right unless you bring your own one from the continent anyway. But the steering wheel on the right just gives you the same perspective that all the other drivers have and you will feel safer sooner.
First time I was driving on the left side was actually much longer ago and it was a rental car while on holidays - it took me about half a day to get used to it but that was it! My boyfriend at the time had trouble getting me out of the car, I enjoyed driving "on the other side" of the road that much!
I'm sure you'll get the hang of it very quickly!

Hi Babaloo,

So, I can start on back streets with my US driver's license? It sounds even better. I'm a slow learner but eventually, I usually learn

Thanks!
