Well, the silly season is upon us, with only 7 more weeks to Christmas! Aghhh I hear you scream. Yes, its creeping up on us very quickly. So Ive been thinking, its about time the forum joined the silly season and Im going to kick it off with this weeks silly season activity. I know quilters are the worlds very best problem solvers so Im giving you a challenge. I'm inviting you to write a limerick about yourself. It doesnt need to be too exposing or overly honest, just a bit of fun between us. Below, is my contribution, with two limericks I wrote during the week. Ive already fessed up previously, to being a quiltaholic who cant go a day without a needle in hand, so these limericks reflect that.

For those of you that are not sure what a limerick is here is a basic explanation for you: A limerick is a five-line poem. The rhyme pattern has lines 1, 2 and 5 rhyming or the last words sounding the same, and lines 3 and 4 rhyming or last words sounding the same.
So... here goes:

There was a quiltmaker called Judie
Who tended to get a bit moody
If she wasnt able to stitch
Her body would shiver and twitch
And shed end up being a bit loopy

(Judie, moody and loopy rhyme, well... sort of)
(stitch and twitch rhyme, pretty well I think!)

There was a quilter who lived in Australia
Who needed to quilt each day, without failure
With needle and thread
And a quilt in her head
She became a compulsive quilt maker!

So its over to you now, have a go and have some fun.
Here is my "silly season" limerick.

I began as a quilting newbie
With fabric as red as a ruby
Now my friends they all say
I can quilt in a day
Like my favorite quilter, Judie.

Sherry in NC
That's a beauty Sherry, well done you clever thing!!

smirk This pretty much says it all:

There once was a granny named Soni.
As a crafter she is full of baloney.
She has tried every one;
But is master of none.
She only truly excels in matrimony!

OMG, you all are doing great. I will have to put on my thinking cap while at the doctors today. Hmmm. (-:

Donna Rae, is this visit to your doctor still a 'side-effect' of the flu shot? I got my shot a week ago and, although not sick, I wish I felt better. I wish you well.
Hi Granny and thanks for the thoughts. No, the doc. appointment was for something else but I still am not up to par. Hope you feel better too. I think I am going to go to the doc. about this. Been too long now!

I will try to be sillier this time, but I still can't say much about my quilting.

There once was a quilter called Granny,
Who kept her fabric in every nook and cranny.
While looking through her stash
One cupboard came down in a crash,
And Granny landed on her well-padded fanny.

Thank God for well padded fannies eh?
cheerio
There once was a sister called Lyn
quilting and sewing just weren't her thing
she had three sisters smart
all doing their part
but not she, hers went in the bin!

Hi all.... I'm new, but I'm not new to Judie! (waves hello)

Thought I'd pop in and see what's keeping her so busy and WOW, how clever is she!!!

Hi everyone. Okay did one at the doctors and one this AM real fast. Not to good at it but here goes. (-:

The Fabric is on its way
Hope it comes today
The sewing has begun
And when I am done
The Quilt will be on display

I have a disease
It's called Fabriceese
Went to the doc
Watched the clock
Got a script to shop as I please

There was an old gardener from Philly,
who dug in the ground nilly-willy,
the violets were red
the grass was all dead
the total effect was quite silly!
Looked at my stash
Checked my hubby's cash
Oh dear the fabric is low
So a shopping I will go
I'm out the door in a dash
GrannyH, I tried to send you a PM but you aren't excepting private messages. How do you change the name under your avatar. Like mine sez newbie, and yours sez JellyFish? Thanks

Donna Rae, apparently the more posts a person makes at these forums the more 'mature' the title. I think I was an amoeba before I became a jellyfish. I do wonder what I'll be next.

At any rate, the only thing I did was talk too much.

LOL Okay, Thanks!

blush One more:

I once found a quilt pattern to treasure.
I gathered the fabric with great pleasure.
But I had to know,
Before I could sew,
Why didn't I bother to measure?

Lynnie661, I don't want to sound like a dumb American, but what does it mean that "hers went in the bin"? I think it may be obvious, but I've made too many assumptions in my lifetime.

I dont' know what Judie unleashed, but I'm trying to get control of it. Until I do here's another limmerick:

While my quilt top is growing, state by state,
It's complettion will just have to wait.
There is much to be done
As I prepare for the fun
Of the Holiday Season - Two Thousand and Eight.
OK girls, I go away for four days and what happens? The forum goes C R A Z Y!!!!. Just love your limericks, I suspect there's an awful lot of truth in them. For those of you who are wondering - Lynnie661 is my little sister, who doesn't quilt (but I'm working on her), but is my soul mate and keeps me sane. The term "hers went in the bin" means she threw it in the trash can. In OZ, a trash can is called a bin.

Hope that clears it up for you. Anyway, keep up the good work, I'm so proud of you all.

Cheerio for now

Well seems grannyh has been on a roll. I have another Doc. appointment today so no telling what I will come up with. (-;

I thought the bin was probably the trash, but I kept thinking about the time I started a quilt that I just hated. After I did 4 or 6 blocks, I sewed them together, put several borders around it, called it a wall hanging, and put it up for raffle at my husband's family reunion. It brought in a respectable amount of money and lots of favorable responses, but I still just hated it. I was awfully glad it wasn't my family reunion. It would have hit the bin instead of the reunion.

No limmerick tonight. Maybe tomorrow.

With apologies to my fellow Minnesotans:

One cold day, while quilting in Minnesot-er,
A granny talked about a friend who had wrote her.
Bumped her head, she said,
While looking for thread.
It's the truth, but you just can't quote her.
Ok girls, here's another one from me:

I'm off to see my daughter
In a town that has no water
She doesn't quilt
I think I'll wilt
I really should have taught her!

Off to my daughter Mimi in outback Queensland, very dusty, no water, but my darling girl is there with her husband. Shall be back in three days. Cheerio

Judie, I'm not sure which situation, as a mother, I would prefer. My oldest son lives 6 blocks north of me, and my youngest son lives 4 blocks south of me. It must be nice to have to plan to go see one(both) of them.

My most recent effort:

There once was a woman full of heart,
Who hoped to create a work of art.
She decided on a quilt
After all her paint spilt.
She just needs the motivation to start.

Donna Rae, apparently in the procession of creators, a shark comes next. How are things going with your visits to the doc?

Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone! I have to get all this material, etc. out of my dining room. GrannyH
