I'm noticing that between the swimming claases and the water aerobics my knees are KILLING ME....artheritis? I'm doing these because I thought they were easier on the joints, but this week, I'm starting to wonder. It could have to do with my kick too, hope to improve it with lessons. Better on the ankles, just not the knees.... frown

So first it was wrists then ankles, now knees? This is a sign that something is wrong structurally. It would be a really good idea to get a referral to a p.t. or corrective exercise expert. Just a few sessions of posture correction can make a HUGE difference.

In the mean time try hanging your heels off a step for 3 min. This will burn like mother but I guarantee your body needs it. Also stretch the quads and hamstrings and see what side is more flexible. Usually tight quad and hammies = knee pain.

You can even do this in the pool after class. Stretching in water is the best!

Sorry D, I did not mean it like that at all. Pain syndromes are actually very common these days because most of us do not get enough of the right type of motion daily. This is due to our very linear lifestyle (t.v. driving computers cell phones).

Pain expert Pete Egoscue calls this living in a box. Our bodies are designed for very dynamic movement but most of us just operate in this tiny box.

Every single client I've worked with in the last 6 years has had multiple pain issues.

For women it's usually upper back, knees, shoulders, wrists, neck

For men it's usually lower back, hip, glutes, shoulders, elbows, knees

Sometimes you fix one problem and another one pops up shortly after. I'm actually working with a lady now who's had horrible TMJ (knee and shoulder issues in the past as well). We seem to have all that under control but now it's her low back.

Doing mobility exercises daily for about 5-8 min. can make a big difference. I do these daily before workouts or mid day if I'm feeling stiff from too much computer work.

Here's a super quick mobility routine from my primal workout series that is so easy and would actually be ideal for your knee issues!

Hey Ms. M, I didn't take it in the negative at all. I'm always saying that to myself anyway. It's called the "what NOW!" syndrome I've been feeling for the last year.

I know you always have my best interest at heart and you give me the tough luv when I need it...LOL....gosh you're my inspiration lady!!!!

Ha ha ha. I often hear myself saying that. Sometimes things get out of whack so it's "what now or what next". Getting older stinks! I could beat my body up so bad when I was young now it's prehab, recovery, and/or rehab or else. I think this is what motivated me to start looking more into the performance side of fitness as well as the psychology of pain. I gotta write about that someday.
