Why do young women think the short top, low waist is so cute? I never see any nicely slim woman wearing them - it is always the ones who have a roll of fat hanging over the skin tight jeans top that makes them look like muffin tops. I think that is so disgusting looking. Why would any woman want to look like that?

The low waist pants are not very flattering to women anyway. They draw more attention to the hips and make them look wider. I've noticed some new styles leaning toward higher waists. I hope the trend continues.

I totally hate that look. And it always seems they are wearing the jeans one size too small (me complaining again, this is never going to work).

I do however like it when they wear them over the really long hip length tops. I think that looks cute.

The tight jeans are ok for some, with the long tops. But, if they are really tight and the waist really low, it makes the butt look so small and abnormal. I think a woman, regardless of her size should find out how to compliment her body, not distort it.

I don't like the look, but these girls must feel good about them selfs. or they wouldn't go around looking like that.

Probably what it is is that those women have never really looked at a full length picture of themself. I had this one outfit I thought I looked soooooo cute in... But then I saw a full length photo of myself in that outfit... OMG!!!! it was not at all cute to say the least....

But then again it could be a self esteem thing... ~shrugs~ who knows....

Well, I am not a fashion model, but, I know what looks good on me and which styles to avoid.

Nothing wrong with a good pair of jeans and a t-shirt. I just started wearing jeans again after a long time without. I use to live in them. Lane Bryant's new Right Fit Jeans line made a huge difference. Now the jeans actually come to my waist and not my rib cage. Also the little bit of spandex they all seem to come with now makes them softer as well as more forgiving when you move.

My sister bought mine from Lane Bryant, they fit great

It's a wonderful thing that they are making stretch jeans now that don't look stretchy.

Yes! I guess that 1 - 3 % is all it takes. I hate those one that are like super stretchy. I don't really consider those jeans. I think they have like 20% or more spandex.

I love jeans and t-shirts. I like the elastic waist, though. And pockets - must have pockets! I also like wearing sweats around home.

It looks like we can expect more muffin tops for the remainder of the year.

Don't they ever really look in the mirror objectively? Do they not have well meaning friends that tell them they look funny dressed like that? I have seen much older women, with excess belly fat wearing the muffin top look, only with them it looks more like the muffin overflowed its cup.

I used to hate jeans, I thought of them as scratchy and would only wear handmade pants my grandmother made. Somewhere along the way I grew to tolerate jeans but for the past 10 years I really rarely wear them. I like sweatpants, they are comfy.

Last night we were actually leaving the house (the amazement!!) so I dug out a pair of size 8 jeans. Now keep in mind I got these like 15 years ago so at this point they might be actual "size 14" jeans with the way the clothing industry keeps changing. In any case I survived in them for maybe an hour or so but then they started to really hurt in the (ahem) crotch so I actually bought sweatpants at the Sears we were at and changed into them in the car for the ride home

So that taught me a lesson not to wear jeans for the next 10 years.

And yes I had tried to go buy a "current" pair of jeans a few months ago and they were so AWFUL looking, at least on me, the muffin top look indeed. I kept thinking something must be wrong with the sizes I was choosing but really, none came up to my waist. I definitely don't like them coming across the hips like that, and I agree, when I see girls wearing them it looks like they are sliding off. So to me that looks like they "don't fit" but I'm sure that's a big part of the appeal, is that they look sexy to guys like "they'll slide any moment now". Sort of like how girls like to wear tops that look like they're about to slip off.

So I think it's a sexy thing of "about to fall" rather than a "looks good on"

The last company I worked at before retirement, had several young girls in the warehouse who wore jeans so low their butt cracks were right there for everyone to see. It was so embarrassing.

I always wondered how wearing jeans so tight that it created a muffin-top could possible be comfortable. I can't stand when my clothes or *ahem* panties cut into me - way to much discomfort!

How about the ones with the butt crack showing and a g-string on? Quite the sight!

LOL! My fiance & I were people watching at the mall and what we saw was something else. There was one heavy woman - ok maybe a little bigger than me wearing low rise jeans and a t-shirt that just barely touched the top of those jeans. That was OK, until she reached up for something or other. Then you could see her belly, muffin top & her belly button piercing. Gah! It just didn't look right. If you have a nice belly & want to show it off that's fine, but when you are a big girl please don't do that.

And yeah, I pretty much have the muffin top situation even with jeans that are up close to my waist. My waist is proportionally larger than it should be in comparison to my hips. So I usually wear a top that goes down to my hips at least & then a cardigan sweater over that. Yup, keeping the belly covered! :-) At least until I can get to a point where I can take off a few or twenty pounds :-)

I don't know, maybe I'm becoming a prude in my old age but this new generation seems to be showing more skin than we ever did or ever wanted to. It's like a walking porn magazine walking down the street. And it summer it's even worse.

There's nothing wrong with looking sexy and being flirty but there really has to be something left to the imagination for it to work.

As for plus size people I think they can be totally sexy but they can not wear the exact same outfits as their thinner counterparts. It just isn't flattering.

I think mystery plays an important part in a woman's beauty. If it is all exposed there is no mystery there.

I know what you all are saying and I agree that the muffin tops look horrible but I have to say I love low-rise jeans.

I have always had a hard time finding jeans because I don't have much in the way of hips. Men's jeans used to fit me better but were too long in the crotch. I'm short so the new low-rise hit me right below my belly button and actually fit my hips! I love them.

Now the extra-low rise.......how can that be comfortable? And noone looks good showing their butt crack.

I am with Anatasia on the low rise jeans. I have boy hips and men's jeans are much more comfortable for me than anything coming near my waist.

I also agree with Lisa and Moe about jeans being basically uncomfortable. I wear jeans almost never. And when i do, i find them tight after I eat, and confining if I am going to sit too long, like in a car or at the computer. Maybe I need to find the right jeans? I don't know why jeans are so beloved.

I think lower rise jeans - ones that hit a couple inches below the belly button - are more flattering on a woman than the ones that come all the way up to the waist. The waist high ones make women look like they have long flat butts and disturbingly long crotches....now of course the super super low ones that show the entire pelvic bone and that you need to have a Brazilian to wear....those only look good on 22 year old hard bodies with six pack abs and 10% body fat.

But jeans that are too tight and create muffin tops - yikes! Nobody looks good when they look like they're bursting and bulging out of their clothes.

I'm with you Jilly. I stopped wearing jeans for quite a few years. Until recently, when I went out and bought a couple of designer pairs. I have to say, the new ones, with about 3-5% spandex are comfortable, even if you are sitting all day or eating.

Nothing beats yoga pants for lounging though!

I agree Sofie, the low rise jeans are much more attractive, comfortable, and the don't accentuate the muffin top. I like the inexpensive ones from Wal Mart, just don't put them in the dryer or they shrink

I live in my jeans They are hipsters (is that what you guys mean by "low rise"? - sounds like it could be the same thing). The main reason I prefer hipsters is because anything higher pinches on my belly-ring. But, for some reason, despite having a flat stomach, I feel very uncomfortable baring any part of my midriff in public (unless I'm on the beach or somewhere like that where everyone's a bit more relaxed). I always wear double tops, a longer tunic underneath that comes over my hips, and a shorter one on top. It's not about covering a muffin top, it's about feeling comfortable, and that's just me.



If you're a prude, then I'm a prude too I don't enjoy going out and worrying about what might be showing. I always want to be comfortable enough to be myself, so that usually means I don't often wear short skirts, low cut tops, or tops that show my midriff, even though I probably could. I don't feel uncomfortable with nudity, though (I'd be the first one with my clothes off on a nudist beach, for example), I just feel that there is a right and a wrong place for it.

I will never understand why fat people wear thigh clothes and clothes that show lots of skin. It's not just because it's disgusting it's also them having no pride at all. Right now I have a fat tummy and until it is gone I will not go out showcasing it, it will be hidden until I am back to a flat tummy.
