What do people think of Matt Dusk from the Casino?
I see ads for him everywhere. He doesn't strike a chord with me.

Oh, well I don't watch it. Does he sing the blues?
:music: This is a blues and jazz music forum. Sorry.

Yes, that's why I mentioned him. Every time I turn on the tube he's there. Casino was a launching block for him. But like I said he's been everywhere even the launch of some clothing store. RW or WR or something. I just thought it was over kill and wanted to know what others thought but apparently it's not as over kill as I thought. Here's his website if curiosity strikes.

I'll check him out. Never heard of him. Do you at least like his voice? What material does he cover?

Some Frank. Ya know I don't know if I like him. I adore Micheal Buble and Diana Krall and their voices fit their image. This kid and his voice don't sit well. They don't jive. I feel like he's been forced down my throat. So no I guess not.

Gosh, you were right. What a lot of hoop-dee-doo. He's no Frank Sinatra or Harry Connick, Jr. That's for sure. Cute but...so what.
I listened to a few samples. Very consistent jazz standard feel. It's okay. Pleasant. Don't know what he was thinking, covering Please Please Me by Lohn Lennon and Paul McCartney. The only real perfection of jazz coverage of beatles songs is by a group of GRP label artists. It's called "I get no kick from modern jazz".

Hello Everyone,
I had the pleasure of going to the Matt Dusk concert in LasVegas on November 15th. I was in Las Vegas for a conference and didn't plan on attending, but I am very glad that I went. Matt is a fantastic preformer who has demonstrated tremendous talent and I am sure glad he is Canadian (and a Torontonian!). I loved his CD Two Shots. Although he sings a few re-makes, I think he does a good job. And not for anything, there are many other musicians that do the same thing and are not put under the microscope for it. Therefore, I think people should cut him some slack :-) and be glad that he is getting the publicity he needs to continue on his road of success!!
Happy Holidays,
Sabrina D

Glad you enjoyed him. Yes I agree they all make remakes but if you re-read what we said we weren't disappointed that he was making remakes but that they didn't seem to fit his image.

As for the publicity issue. It was overkill. I don't think it will continue him on the road to success unless Casino makes it back for another season. And that just limits his fan base. I personally don't like it when artists are shoved down my throat which was my point. Because of the publicity every 3 seconds it turned me off and as a result I'm not a fan. I'm not going to choose to like someone because they are Canadian. I think it's great that a Canadian was picked to spotlight an American show though. I don't wish him any ill will, he's just not for me.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving your comments

Hi ladies... I hope I get a Matt Duck Cd for Xmas. I really want to hear what he's all about. I'm going to Las Vegas in February, 2005. Is his engagement that long. Maybe if I see him in person, I'll definately get a better feel about him. There are alot of people out there doing jazz standards. Our legends are gone. But you have to be very particular about people to sig standards. Are they for real? Is jazz in them? Or are they resurrecting or desperately seeking a career? And is the effort overrated. I think that's the question. Think Rod Stewart eek .

Sorry, I mean Matt Dusk. Not Matt Duck. I'm so embarrassed.

You know, I didn't even notice the "Duck" until you mentioned it. I guess my eyes just assumed it was correct. No need to be ebarrassed. We have typos here.
