My mother-in-law loves Indian food. She cooks it. She takes us to restaurants. I have a problem. About every single dish is too spicy for me even the mild ones. I am highly sensitive to heat yet love the taste of Indian food. Which recipes/dishes are ones for people like me - spice challenged!
Hi Rebecca,

Basically any restaurant dish can be made mild with zero heat. The naans & rice dishes shouldnt be a problem. Veg dishes such as Aloo Gobi (cauliflower & potatoes), Dals (lentils), Bhendi Masala (okra), Malai Kofta (vegetarian fritters in a creamy curry), Navratan Korma (mixed vegetables), Saag/Palak Paneer (spinach & Indian cheese)... can easily be made with no spicy heat.

Non Veg dishes: butter chicken, tandoor chicken, shrimp kabobs...

Also, drink a mango lassi before/during dinner & ask for some yogurt on the side. This has a great cooling effect on your palate.

I hope this helps! Do let me know how your next restaurant visit goes!

Veg dishes like Yellow dal (lentils) , Aloo mutter (potatoes with peas), Paneer makhanwala (paneer is indian version of tofu), navratan korma (made with 9 vegetables, is generally sweet), veg makhanwala (mixed veg dish with butter), etc. These are generally less spicy.
Hello,

Paneer is actually Indian cheese:

Tofu is a soybean curd, it is also vegan.

Hope this helps!
