One Goal at a Time
Great article! managing my goals is one of my main life activities. Seriously. i have a ton of deferred goals and am certain that eventually they will all get done.
Dear Leah -
That's a great article! Absolutely I believe the research that says the human mind does best when focusing strongly on one thing at a time.
Leah, this was just what I needed to read at just this moment.
I treat my goals like I treat my books.
I work on 20 at a time.
Literally, I made a list of all the books I'm actually reading right now, and it came out to 16.
I actually managed to finish one a couple of weeks ago LOL!!!
LOL, Deanna. That sounds complicated. I assume you mean non fiction books. I can only read one fiction book at a time. But I tend to have nonfictions that I am breezing though here and there at all times.
Just what I needed to hear too. One goal at a time. Back to the lists again, something I never do. So I guess it's the lists.
Great article, good luck with the other books Deanne.
HA HA Jilly, yup mostly non-fiction. Because they ALL look so interesting LOL!!!
Linda, I've actually whittled myself down to one non fiction book and one fiction book.
It's so weird LOL...
Yesterday I almost started another non-fiction book. So... much... trouble... resisting....
Remind me to show you guys a picture of my new serenity box. it's really helping me feel less overwhelmed with everything i need to do.
Hi Leah,
I'm a lot like that! I'm an overly ambitious person and often find myself burdened with way too much for a 23 year old girl. Unfortunately, my culture encourages early everything; you need to get a job quickly, get married and have kids even quicker, and just become this perfect human being in no time. Hence, the to do list never ends, because these are lifetime achievements and if they happen overnight then you've made the decisions way too quickly.
Great article and love the website.
Hey Leah,
Leah here:). I feel this way often! I've really been working on it - I like the idea of one goal at a time. Jilly, I used to have a worry box - sounds a little like your serenity box. Maybe it's time to bring it back out:). Writing always helps me calm down too.
~Leah
I posted a pic of my Serenity Box on my FB page if anyone here is a 'friend'. Yes, it is a worry box. I gave it a more peaceful name and decorated it in a way that makes me happy to look at it.
Enjoyed reading yoru article. Doing a brain dump is an excellent way to grow.
Back in 1994, after a car accident left me sitting, I did this I also realized that many of my goals weren't things I really wanted to do any longer. So I shorten the list.
When I got involved in life coaching training, my list shortened again when I created my life plan. My goals, with dates, are now all about that life plan. When I think up a new goal, I ask myself "how does this fit in with my plan" --is this something I want to add now.
Achieving our goals is certainly a moment to cherish and very motivating for others too. Ambition is one thing but obtaining something with passion involved in it is what actually matters.
Great article, one goal at a time can help us focus on one thing, can improve our efficience.
