Check out an article on Bella's SF/Fantasy Movies site about the movie trailer for Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

HAHAHA! I loved that book! The trailer is funny! I thought they waved a towel to catch the spaceship when they got off the earth. I don't have a copy of the book.

I can't wait to see the film. Ford, Zaphod, Trillian and Dent all look great! My guess is the storyline will go up to the Restuarant At the End of the Universe, since there is just not much, plotwise, in any one book.

I have to admit...I never read the book. My husband has always said I should and I probably will before the movie comes out. The movie does look funny though.

I think the movie is a crock. It shows blatant disregard for the facts and, from what I've seen, cuts out a load of great dialog. The writer's themselves have admitted that while they kept the basic barebones of what Doug Adams wanted in the movie, they have taken poetic license to do unsightly things with character development and plot structure. I really don't think their efforts will turn out for the best and am annoyed that they would do such a thing as this.

As someone who grew up with the original radio show, then the books, then the TV show it's very hard to take different actors in these roles (and to see a 'cute' version of Marvin!). That said the trailer does look good and Hitchhiker's expert MJ Simpson has said it looks promising, so I will hold final judgement until I actually see the movie. Hoping it is good and reasonably true to the source material (unlike, say Constantine). And if it isn't there's always the new radio broadcasts to look forward to!

Well, I am a lot more excited than you are, Joe! But I guess you're playing it cool, eh? -- I love the way it looks and I think that I will finally be able to get all my friends who feels that the book and all the other stuff is so stigmatized by geekiness. I mean Mos Def might be a lot of things, but he is one Hoopy Frood, to be sure. So, I am going to finally be able to get my gang to become part of the conversation -- they will now know a lot of the same lines I have been laying for years -- and this time they won't have to look at my funny. The only folks I have been able to convert are boys who have wanted to date me! Ha! Have you seen the revamp of the site?

I'm finally reading the books (my husband is making me!) and I do remember seeing the TV shows. I hope it is fairly close to the book. I alwyas hate when things get changed for no apparent reason (did anyone see Earthsea on SciFi channel?)

So - now that the movie's out...what's the verdict?

Personally, I loved it. It was very different from the book, but in my opinion, the feeling of the movie stayed true to the book. Plus because Douglas Adams had his hand in the script before he died, I think I felt reassured that it wasn't a perversion of his work.

I seem to hold an unpopular opinion, though. Most of the other Douglas Adams fans I've talked to hated the movie.

So...whaddya say?

I've also heard most of the Adams fans hated it. I haven't seen it yet (movie theaters are so darm expensive!) but I think I'll enjoy it form what I've seen. Anyone else have an opinion on the movie?
