I have commented in other places how things have deteriorated on the streets of Nashville. Well, I was mugged the night of May 28. Memorial Day. Being a veteran, I found it a bit ironic. There is a very different class of people here from what there was even in the 1990s. The number of homeless walking the streets is alarming.

I was returning to my truck about 11pm when I saw a black male, perhaps 6 feet, in his late 30s, coming toward me. He stopped when he reached me. He said he had a gun and told me to give him $20. I said no and walked. The next thing I knew, I was waking up in the back of an ambulance. He had attacked me from behind, hitting me with a gun or something else. My wallet, keys and cell phone were gone. Apparently, a woman had seen it happen and called the ambulance. I do not recall being hit or going down. I was knocked out.

The ambulance took me to the Veterans Hospital. They ran some tests and released me. The left side of my face was swollen, and there was a bump over my left eye. Also, some cuts on my scalp and under my right eye. But, I am okay. I will heal.

Replacing the cards in my wallet is costly and time-consuming: drivers license, VA card, AAA card, etc. Of course, I had to replace my cell phone and still have to have keys made for my truck. My assailant got the $200 that was in my wallet, but I am lucky to be alive.

Hi Jim, sorry to hear what happened to you. Being unconscious that long from a blow to the head can be dangerous. It would be wise to get yourself checked out by a doctor (preferably a head injury specialist) in the next 24-48 hours. In the meantime if you start to get a severe headache, numbness, feel sick, or just 'odd' get back to Casualty pronto!

Hope all goes well

Oh, Jim, so sorry for your bad experience in Nashville. My husband used to go to Nashville every February during the 80s but it seems the downtown renovation had a reverse effect on a beautiful city. We drove through a few years ago but had no desire to stop much less spend time there.

I do hope you have no lasting effects from this sensless crime.

Oh, my, that is terrible! How are you healing up? Hopefully no lasting physical effects are still bothering you. Head injuries are nothing to mess with. frown
