Hi Michelle, I would love to help you in any way that I can. I'm not sure that I'm qualified. I think that there are classes that teach the GED in most cities that are free to learners. I don't know where you live or what type of learning disability that you have, but I bet we could figure out what free services are available to you, perhaps through United Way.

One way that you can be helped is by getting your class notes taken by another student when you go for your GED. I just read about this and will contact a person who knows more to give you more information. Your county or state board of education would be a great place to start with questions about when classes start, how often they meet, etc.

Good luck. We are here to help. I'll get back more info for you.

Sweetgirl, thanks for posting your situation here and many thanks to all who are responding to try to help. Also, contact the Adult Education division of your nearest community college for help with your GED preparation and learning disabilities.

Sweetgirl, Susan is right, go to your local College or maybe even High School to find out where you can contact the Special Needs department. They can either have someone do your notes for you or maybe have an audio version of the study guide for the ged. I'll do some preliminary research on the web and let you know if I find anything. Good Luck and don't give up.

One accommodation that might be made available to you is that of a reader. People with learning disabilities who qualify have readers who read standardized tests to them. With a second grade reading level, it seems that you might qualify. Then you could focus on memorizing/learning the material required to pass the test, rather than worrying about being able to read it.
