I had no desire to see Super 8. My sister-in-law gave it a resounding three thumbs up! So, off we went. It was an amazing film, quite worthy of a couple of hours in the theater. I add my thumbs to hers. It's a must-see on the large screen.

We thought that we would buy some drinks and a popcorn to share. Imagine my surprise to find that a SMALL popcorn and two MEDIUM drinks cost $18.75! I don't mind the theater making money on the concessions, even if they are gouging me a bit. But $18.75! REALLY??! We voted with our feet. Tonight, I'll have the Orville Reddenbacher small at home.

Connie, I want to see this movie sooooo bad!!! I agree about the price of movie theater popcorn and soda!!!

But their popcorn is just so good!!! Our local theater even has ranch or cheddar cheese popcorn topping!!! :P

We could bring our own water and candy though! That ought to save about $50 LOL!!!!!

You bet! Sometimes we bring peanut M & Ms. I don't carry a purse, so sometimes I collapse a plastic bottle and cap it. In my pocket it goes, then fill it at the water fountain.

Oooooh peanut M&Ms are the best for movie theater fare!

We love the jr. mints. My kids like to get red licorice laugh I love it too!

I also love corn nuts; small easily concealed, tasty, but hard on the teeth, they are a movie treat.

OMG I LOVE corn nuts! I wonder if they are deep fried or baked??? Baked would make them almost not evil. Deep fried... hmmmm..... pure evil. They could have their own horror movie.

Movie theaters make almost no money on the price of admission. They make all their money on concessions. Without concessions movie theaters could not stay in business.

Also, as expensive as the prices are it is probably much different for the prices you would pay at the ballpark or amusement park. Concessions at a major league ballpark or at a place like Kings Island or Cedar Point is just as high.

I do not have a problem with a reasonable profit. Selling a bag of popcorn that is the size of an old-fashioned small brown lunch bag for $5 is not reasonable. Including oil, popcorn and the bag, that popcorn cost less than $0.50 to make...much less if you include economies of scale.

BTW, I don't pay these prices anywhere.

This is why I like dollar theaters and drive-ins for the family, way cheaper as a hobby! But of course, we have also treated ourselves with gold class cinemas tickets (before they changed ownership and messed it up). Nothing like watching a movie in a comfy recliner and ordering food while watching the movie hehe.

My kids seen Super 8 with their dad and liked it. For both of kids to agree makes me want to see it.

I would love to see the movie to, but for 2 people just to go is $20.00 add a snack and it's $40. That's why I am totally in love with Netflix. But if it's a must, must see, I'll consider it.

This movie seems like it may best be seen on the big screen!

I love Netflix, but the lack of closed caption often hampers what movies can be enjoyable.

Totally understandable!!!

Snack bar prices are the same here in Australia. Our local cinema is quite reasonable for seats - the shock comes when you see the prices at the snack bar. 'Smuggling' food into the cinema is quite popular - usually just a bag of candy or chips, but some people boast they've smuggled in a Chinese dinner!
