It makes me giggle when I hear people insist that they "don't believe in" astrology.
They're yet ignorant of how everything all works together. Everything influences each other. Yes, including as you said, the etheric, gravitational and magnetic influences upon the psyches and psychologies of humans but also vice versa! We emit potent energies.
In this universe, everything is inextricably interconnected. Astrology is just another component. Should one run his life based upon astrology? {shrug} Everyone has his own free will to live as he chooses but to let astrology make his decisions, in my opinion, is to seriously limit his power. Astrology "predicts" possibilities. We, humans, turn possibilities into realities.

People who only know a little about astrology have a model in their minds that says that the planets have some direct effect on people and events, rather than being just part of a web of subtle effects in which they are just one component. Possibly not even a major one. Even Shakespeare had one of his characters in 'Julius Caesar' comment:
"The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars,
But in ourselves, that we are underlings."
and he was writing in a time when medical astrology was a mainstream diagnostic tool of the time.
Also I remember being told about one of the ancient Indian kingdoms where the king was a big believer in Vedic astrology and based his whole employment and governing strategy on it. Apparently it didn't work out very well..
Having said that the two last Mercury retrograde events have coincided with major communication and paperwork (both ruled by Mercury) at work which have had a major effect on me. Mercury governs both Gemini, which is in my Mid heaven (career) and Virgo which is my rising sign (how you are perceived by others) so it's been a stressful few months.
As you can see from this chart in astrology the effects are said to be felt before and after the event itself as mentioned in the link. Hopefully these influences are coming to a close and I can get back to my writing which the stress of it all greatly affected. Look forward to a new article soon!
