The line-up is being finalized for the 2018 Sundance Film Festival which runs Janunary 18-28 in Park City, Utah. Among the films premiering are "Akicita: The Battle of Standing Rock", a documentary about the 2016 protest against the Dakota Access Pipeline, and "Hereditary", a dark drama starring Toni Collette and Gabriel Byrne. There will also be a retrospective featuring the work of director Todd Haynes ("Carol", "Wonderstruck").
Update: Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will be among the speakers appearing at this year's Sundance Film Festival. Justice Ginsburg will be featured during one of Sundance's daily Cinema Cafe chats, while director Ava DuVernay will be part of a panel discussing the topic "Power of Story: Culture Shift". Rocker Joan Jett, subject of the new documentary "Bad Reputation", will also be at the Festival.
Update: The Sundance Film Festival juries will be comprised mainly of women this year. It was announced today that Jada Pinkett Smith, Octavia Spencer, Chaz Ebert (film critic Roger Ebert's widow), musician and actress Shirley Manson, and cinematographer Rachel Morrison will be among the artists judging this year's entries.
