The Spix has been extinct in the wild for a long time. The Al Wabra Wildlife Preservation is breeding these beautiful birds and they will eventually be returned to the wild. They have bought a large area in Brazil which was historically part of the Spix historical range. The preserve (located in Qatar, on Arabian Peninsula, north of Saudi Arabia run by Sheikh Saoud.
