The Spix has been extinct in the wild for a long time. The Al Wabra Wildlife Preservation is breeding these beautiful birds and they will eventually be returned to the wild. They have bought a large area in Brazil which was historically part of the Spix historical range. The preserve (located in Qatar, on Arabian Peninsula, north of Saudi Arabia run by Sheikh Saoud. The work they are doing with the spix and other rare and endangered animals is nothing short of amazing. There are several pics on their Facebook page enjoy! Al Wabra
