After much disappointment with the public school here, we have decided to homeschool. I need a little help with where to go to get a good curriculum. I am going to let him finish out the year, since it is so close to ending anyway, but he will be in 5th grade next year. Thanks

Try http://www.homeschool.com. This is a national site that indexes a variety of curricula/materials for homeschoolers. Good luck!

it's hard to just say "try this" when you dont have more info.

I'd get a good scope and sequence to find out what to learn when. Try worldbook.com under the parent's section or the "What your X-Grader SHould KNow" series by E.D. Hirsch.

Then, figure out his learning style, your teaching style, how much time you want to put into planning, how often you want to use the library, your budget, how autonomous he is, how much reading/writing he can handle, your religious preference, your local laws...and go from there.

Personally I love Saxon math for one kid and Singapore for the other. Math is the only thing I use prepared curriculum for.

Thank you I will go check all the suggestions out. I did take a look at my neighbors and she is using one from 1999 and one of the things I did not like was the religious portion, plus I want to get an updated one. Someone gave her a whole set from 5th to 12th grade and that is what she is using for her kids.

what was the curriculum? I've foudn a non-religious curriculum alternative for almost every religious one, with the exception of Konos.

Saxon and singapore are both non-religious <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Thanks Meg, we are still leaning heavily toward home school. I am pretty confident that I can do it with help.
