There are the stories of John Fogerty (CCR) and John Kay (Steppenwolf), where there was one person was the only recognizable party, wrote all or 95% of the songs, arranged, produced, sang lead and played lead guitar where some or all of their rhythm section people started touring as the original groups name. In the case CCR (they were forced to change to Creedance Clearwater Revisted) and Steppenwolf (John Kay won the name back in court and he tours as John Kay and Steppenwolf.

Anyone know of other situations where, there was not a death or retirement. When the overwhelmingly main cog in the wheel and only recognizable name in the group was still active and the group and the backup or rhythm section players started using the original groups name without the permission of their unique talent or only recognized member ?

Also how about situations where the rhythm group players left to form an original group with others, created a new name and were succesful.

Thanks,

Jon
