WTG Shadow..that's one point for you! Come back Friday for the next one!

Question #3..
In January 1950, what song & artist reached #1 and also laid claim to the country music industries first million-selling hit?
Lovesick Blues by Hank Williams,Sr.
Trish
Good try, but wrong according to my source. Try again!
In January 1950, what song & artist reached #1 and also laid claim to the country music industries (Nashville's) first million-selling hit?
Patti Page with With My Eyes Wide Open I'm Dreaming
Okay, kmslape and Kathy, I've looked everywhere and have narrowed the search down to Patti Page as the artist who in January 1950 had the #1 song. So, I agree with you kmslape, because she had so many hits, but it was very hard to find THE one that was listed as THAT ONE hit. I found Mockingbird Hill (Horton) by Patti Page went GOLD in 1950 and Tennessee Waltz went to #1 and stayed there for 30 weeks. It is considered to be THE song that changed country music and she was the 1st and only artist to have a #1 pop, R&B, & country crossover. Tennessee Waltz was a flip side, filler (side B) and it is the 3rd highest selling single behind Elton John's "Candle in the Wind" and Bing Crosby's "White Christmas". Pretty remarkable. Plus she made "How much is that doggie in the window?", a favorite when I was a child.
Trish
Ok, let's call this question over. My source (CMT.com) says that it was Red Foley's "Chattanoogie Shoe Shine Boy".
I'll post a new question on Friday.
Oh, that was a good song!
What group joined the Grand Old Opry in May, 1950?
"Mother" Maybelle Carter and the Carter Sisters
Correct Glitterfae!
So that is one point for ShadowCaster, babyquacker (Trish) and glitterfae. It's a tie. That one was answered quick, guess I need to make them a bit harder, just not as hard as last weeks tho!
Maybelle Carter and the Carter Sisters
In 1957, who won the Arthur Godfrey Talent Search?
Good guess, but no
In 1957, who won the Arthur Godfrey Talent Search? (Hint: It was in April.)
Bill Carlisle (& The Carlisles)
Correct Glitterfae!
So that is one point for ShadowCaster and babyquacker (Trish) and two for glitterfae.
New question coming Friday!
In 1953, whose song charted on the same day as he or she debuted on the Grand Ole Opry?
Jim Reeves - "Mexican Joe"
Trish
babyquacker got that one right!
Standings are:
one point for ShadowCaster and two for glitterfae and babyquacker (Trish).
New question coming Friday!
