The Blitz

One of my mom's friends lived in England as a teen and experienced the bombings. She talked about her parents putting blackout curtains on the windows and how the noise of the planes was terrifying. She said the Queen Mum used to help rescuers find children and pets among the rubble of apartment buildings. I think of her every time I see "Mrs. Miniver" on AMC.
