I would think that loud music or noises would irritate or stress hermit crabs. Considering that they live inside shells and are kept much of the time in plastic or glass aquariums where noise is echoed and amplified, being stressed would probably be common.

If your crab rarely comes out of his/her shell and is more defensive than usual, you may want to move him/her to a more quiet place.

Hermit crabs can't hear but they do pick up on vibrations. Constant moving shadows stress them more than sound and vibration though.

If their behavior has changed significantly, you may need to move them to a more static environment.

It's a good idea to try to have your hermit crab tank in a quiet area of your home, especially when you first bring them home. They're pretty stressed when we bring them home from the pet stores, so having them in a quiet, dark location that's very warm (78-80 degrees) and humid (78-80%) is a good idea.
