I have 4 cats and 3 parakeets, and in the past have had lizards, newts, lots of fish, grew up with a dog, had a cockateil, lots of other parakeets. I was really inspired by your skunk article though! They sound so smart! I think our house is full of pets right now ... maybe in a few years or something ...

Hi Lisa,
Skunks are pretty amazing. They are so intelligent they really keep you on your toes. I could tell you some pretty funny stories about skunks, oh, and raccoons too.

My big animal thing this year is making sure I tame and find homes for every single feral kitten born this year in our mobile home park. It breaks my heart to see all the animals people abandon. I have one very animated male kitten to go, everybody else has a home.

Hi Diana,
I'm Mavis - and my daughter & I are owned by 2 dogs, 3 cats, 11 birds (2 CAG's, 3 tiels, 1 PF Lovebird, 2 doves, 1 Turquosine Parakeet, 1 Bourkes Parakeet & 1 Button Quail) and 5 aquariums of fish. We used to breed several small animals (rabbits, hamsters (both dwarf & standard), gerbils & chinchillas)but have now thinned out our zoo to a more manageable number of strictly pets.

Good for you in your goal of finding homes for the feral cats in your neighbourhood! I wish you the best of luck.

That's great about your cat mission! Out of my four cats, the first was from a shelter. The second was abandoned in my neighborhood and I finally took it in because it looked so sad. The third and forth were my son's at his dad's house - his stepmom tired of them and was going to give them to a shelter. As they were both 6 yrs old, that was pretty much a death sentence. Never mind the bizarre moral message she was teaching the kids ...

Sounds like you still have quite a crew. With your bird family members you must have a pretty chipper sounding home. I love tiels because they are so loving and have such a comic nature.
What is the chinchillas' nature. Are they fairly easy to take care of? One animal I have never had. Perhaps you can send some tips and we can put to gether a article on chinchillas.
Thanks for stopping by.

That is putting it lightly, bizarre moral message. And, children learn from adults. I think I will have to put my Values of Life story back up. Not sure if you remember my turtle story, but I did have an opportunity to run it in the newspaper as an editorial. I figure the more people I can educate the better. It's a horribly busy weekend. We have our big fair and of course George and I are covering it. Two days to go in the awful heat. I'm getting very faired out! Two days down, two to go. The first night was on the fourth and had to be the most spectacular fireworks display I have ever seen. A women captain in the army sang patriotic songs throughout. It was inspiring. Talk with you soon, and will be back with skunk stories. If I get started on those the paper will never see me this weekend

Chinchillas are extremely active little guys. Their fur is so soft you just love to hug them, but they can't hold still long enough to let you hold them for long. They have to have a dust bath every few days (more often when its humid) or their fur gets a greasy feeling. They need out of cage time each day so they can bounce (& I mean bounce) around. They are very curious. You can keep two or more of the same sex together and they love to cuddle up with each other to sleep. You can also keep the male & female together, but they will breed constantly (thats why we ended up with 6)
I really loved my little guys, but I started to develop alergies to them (or their dust) & would be sneezing constantly when I was with them.

They sound like real sweeties. I think I might just have to go find someone that has one
