After battling pancreatic cancer for the past year, tenor Luciano Pavarotti passed away early this morning.
This is a huge loss for the operatic world. But speaking from a purely personal standpoint, pancreatic cancer is a horribly painful type of cancer. At age 71 this may be one of those times that we can say with sincerity that his passing is a relief.
I'm working on an article about this great man, but more than anything else - he had a tremendous part in making opera "hip" and approachable. He will greatly missed.
