Has anyone ever tasted plum cake? My mother used to make plum cake that was awesome. She never frosted it, just sprinkled powdered sugar on top. I was so moist. She will not give us her recipe yet -- so, I went searching and found a Polish recipe that seems similar to Mom's. Just click on the following link:

To serve the cake with little dollop of whip cream is also good.

rdywenur, it is good to have you back here.

That placek with plums sounds great. If you have a recipe to share I would like to try making some.

Placek (Plum Cake)

3 Cups flour
2 sticks butter
1 Cup sugar
5 eggs yolks (save whites for 2nd step)
1Tsp Baking powder
1 tspCocoa (best to use Drost the real Dutch cocoa...the unsweetened in a chocolate can)
Italian plums (enough to cover a 13x9 inch pan

Mix (knead) and divide into 3 equal parts

1st add cocoa(about 1 tsp) to one of the 3 parts you just divided. Leave in refrigerator for 1 to 2 hours. Take one ball and pat into pan add the fruit (Italian plums divided into two is best)Just lay them side by side till whole pan is covered (I used a 13x9 in pan) You may also use sliced apples as the plumes are usually in season in the fall. Next take 2nd ball and crumble on top of the plumes. Beat 5 egg whites, stiff, add 1/2 Cup sugar. Pour over the fruit.

Take 3rd ball (cocoa) and crumble last evenly over the mixture. Bake at350for about 25 to 30 minutes.

Let me know how you like it if you decide to make it.

PS I am always on the board but I won't be on it if Valpo is (and definitely won't respond to any of his posts)
