Hi, I'm new on this forum so hope someone will find the time to help. I have a permanent colour on my hair but want to grow it out. As I need my hair coloured to cover the grey I want to change to a colour that will wash out until the permanent one has completely grown out. Is this a good idea or will a wash in/wash out colour not work over a permanent one? Hope to hear from you soon as my roots are getting wider and wider! Thanks x

When you say 'wash out' color, do you mean semi-permanent that fades away in about 6 weeks or do you mean temporary that washes out with the next shampoo?

Semi-permanent may cover your gray or it may simply blend it. It depends on how much gray you have and how porous your hair is. Some gray is very resistant and is difficult to cover. Sometimes it just accepts a little color so that it isn't as bright white as normal.

Do you want to cover the perviously tinted hair? Or do you want to cover the newgrowth enough that the difference between the newgrowth and the tinted hair is not as noticable?

Hi Lynne, Thanks so much for your reply. What I have is about an inch of newgrowth. I have tinted hair (permanent colour) and I want to grow the colour out (my hair is long). While that grows out, I want to cover the old colour and the newgrowth, preferrably with a different colour (at the moment it's a dark blond colour). What should I do? I would like a colour that fades with each wash. Thanks again gaegae

Gaegae,
You would need to use a color that is darker than the dark blonde. Is your new growth darker or whiter or what?

I'm not sure you can find a temporary color that will cover. I haven't had any experience with weekly color in years. I think they are good for blending but I'm not sure they will work to cover and give a good looking result. The only one I know of is Roux Fanciful Rinse. You may want to try it out and see the results.
