I was having a wonderful interview, and I was asked a question where I believed that I had given a good answer. The interviewer, previously warm and encouraging, went stone cold on me. I knew that I had lost the job. With nothing further to lose, I said, "I can see that the answer that I gave you was not what you needed to hear. Would you mind rephrasing the question? I don't think that I understood." She rephrased, and I gave an answer that was more complete. She liked that, and I got the job.
