Sometimes you are given free bags of fruit and the race is on to use them before things rot! Here is a primer on how to find those free fruit windfalls.

Where to Find Free Fruit Windfalls

Have you ever been given a bag of fruit? How do you use everything in time?

I have a bag of oranges and a bag of lemons right now I am struggling to use in time. I think i need to get it over with and squeeze the lemon juice out and freeze it. I can't use all these lemons! smile

dan MIGHT be able to eat all the oranges...the race is on...

Dry your fruits to make teas, potpourri, and soaps. Get to know your neighbors chances are they are growing something in abundant themselves - have a swap. Make a welcome basket for any new neighbors in the area. Donate excess fruit to homeless and battered woman's shelters.

I love the community share idea. it could be like a Tupperware party, but with sharing produce. smile

There are apple trees and nut trees in this area that would be nice to get some windfalls on. It's a matter of timing, really. I have started a calendar of which local trees bear when.

And, you can dry out your wares to have items with which to share during different times of the year!

I have prickly pear fruit! Lemons didn't come in from last winter's cold ... nor did my oranges ... I believe I'm annoyed.
